Need help from computer folks
I run Windows ME at home, and for 24 hours now, we haven't been able to access any search engines. We've run virus scans galore, but have come up with nothing.

Why can't we do any searches? We've tried google, altavista, MSN, Yahoo, et al., and nothing. I know I'm a big luddite, but this has stumped me. All other aspects of IE are working normally.

We just keep getting error messages, or sent to a site that wants to sell us a domain name (LOL).

2. Spyware/Malware? I Suggest Ad Aware
Your problem sounds like you accidentally accessed or downloaded some crapware like Xupiter.

I'd suggest downloading a copy of Ad Aware from the link below. Ad Aware helps you get rid of cookies and spyware from "businesses" like Xupiter.

5. definitely could be spyware
Chcek that Ad-aware link. Also Spybot is a good Spyware cleaner: http://beam.to/spybotsd

I have heard that Klez can do this also, but the symtomology has not been confirmed.

If you don't have a firewall I would suspect Spyware first!

My husband keeps disabling our firewall, so I'm sure you all are right. Argh! Thanks again!

9. Just A Suggestion
But RUN, don't walk from WinME. I had it on my first computer and ME got to the point I would have to reformat my HD and reload it at least once a month.

If you go Win, use XP. It's far more stable, easier to use, looks better and an upgrade isn't that costly.
