What kind of computer do you have?
I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RX850.
I've now had it coming up on three years. That is unheard of for me because prior to this computer purchase I used to buy a new one every year and a half b/c I hate when computers get slow. I had so many brands of computer before this- IBM, Compaq, HP, Dell...

I am IN LOVE with this computer.
But since I got the iPod I want to turn this into my music computer (Since I am loading upwards of 8,000 songs into it)
& get another computer for general use. I am thinking I would like to stay with Sony since it is such a stellar product, but I am wondering if anyone else has a kick ass computer. Or has had problems with the Sony Vaio notebook?

I'm Particularly interested in a laptop. Can anyone tell me how the i book is?

6. Many, Many people slam Dell for this and that...
...but I've had no problems what-so-ever with Dell. I just needed a little more machine, and didn't want to pay the price, which is why I rolled my own.

4. Several
Homebuilt P4 3 Ghz with 1 gig of ram and a Radeon 9800 Pro video card. (That's my Half-Life 2 machine)
A laptop provided from my company for my job.
And three Amigas: Two 1200's and a 500 in storage. Once I get my apartment straightened out completely, I'm bringing them up from my hometown.
I must admit I've never used an iBook, but I hear they're nice.

5. A fucked up Dell 4400.
It totally crapped out today. I am on Dr. DemoTex's sacred desk-top (Dell 4100). She will kill me when she finds out (not really).

15. Really it isn't that hard
Find a local shop that sells components. Hang around. Ask questions. Look and learn. Open up every computer you can and learn to ID the parts. (First shut off the PC, unplug, open case and then discharge static electricity by touching the power supply housing.) If I can do it, anyone can! Most things can't be hooked up "wrong" -- the connections are pretty specific.

9. An older iBook. G3 800mhz.
Love the thing to death. Honestly. It's my first Mac, and I still use a desktop PC for many games, or software I only have a PC version of. But this iBook is really the main computer I use. Totally rocks for web surfing, forum crawling (like this), carrying around on trips, etc...

I suppose a PC laptop would do as well. But my iBook really just feels so polished and together. Every PC I've ever owned or worked with has felt sort of unfinished or cheap. Not the iBook.

13. Dell Inspiron 8200 notebook
It's a heavy one, more a desktop replacement. It's getting on a bit now, more than 18 months old but still pretty fast. P4-M 1.8Ghz 512mb RAM, GeForce4 graphics, 1600x1200 resolution.

I love it, I'm now too damn lazy to own a desktop when I can surf the web lying around on my bed.

18. I build my own
I have a couple I use for internet surfing that are old slow Win 98 clunkers, 400 and 450 mhz processors.

the one I built as a workstation for my recording studio is getting a little dated, but still fast enough. Athlon 1600xp processor with 1GB of ram. The next studio computer I have will most likely be a Mac.
