2. The whole "Open Water" script. ::spoiler warning::
Although I wonder if they deliberately made you hate the characters because of the ending.

3. Difference being that the script for Open Water sounded like things
people might actually say.

7. LOL are you saying most people are dicks?
Cuz that's what I thought of the main two characters.

AND they were stupid. "No, don't swim for that boat!" :P

8. That boat was over 1/2 a mile away
Swimming for it would be something most people would NOT do. In fact, diver training would teach you not to in most cases, too much risk of exhausting yourself.

And, if the past 4 years have taught us anything, yes, most people are dicks.

9. Yeah, but if they covered maybe half of the distance and then yelled,
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 04:19 PM by BullGooseLoony
somebody might have heard them. They had flippers, too- makes it a lot easier.

I dunno, I just disagreed with the decision he made.

On edit: When my uncle was certified, he had to swim a mile in a pool, too, without fins (and he was in pretty horrible shape, also).

14. So tell me, do you think your uncle could have swam across currents
that were pulling him in the opposite direction (they were drifting away from the boat while the boat was also pulling away under its own power)?

Yelling will carry fairly well, but not past a 1/4 mile or so, especially with all the typical sounds of the ocean and a boat motor, the yelling would most likely have been fruitless.

The thing that would have been wise would have been having a dive light with you which could be used for signalling (a signal mirror would not have worked due to overcast conditions).

The boats they could see were both moving away, and too far for any shouting to have worked. Plus with rising and falling peaks in the water, line of sight isn't exactly conducive to spotting them either.

Your idea of swimming for the boat would likely have brought sharks even sooner than they already arrived.

17. In the movie, there were boats
on either side of them. And, I'm not quite sure how anchors work, or even if the boats were moving, but the hope would be that the current would be carrying the boat, too.

Of course, if both of the boats were actually moving away from them, their best bet would have been to stay put and try to signal somehow.

18. Which is what they did, as best they could . . .
They didn't have a lot to signal with, and with engines on on the boat, you can't hear much, so a visual signal would be the only real means of getting attention. Unfortunately, they didn't have anything to signal effectively (like I said, overcast conditions). Ideally, they would have had a signal light or mirror, but they didn't.

24. See, I just wasn't sure that the boats were moving away from them.
It looked as if they were stopped for other dives. Couldn't tell, though.

28. I base the theory that they were moving away on the fact that they were
gone within 10 minutes after first being spotted.

16. The entire dialog found in the movie "Pearl Harbor"
A little reminder of how to mess up a perfectly good war movie:

"I'm giving my heart to Danny. But I'll never look at another sunset without thinking of you."

Oh, a Big Kahuna burger! That's that hawaiian burger joint, right? Mind if I have a bite?

Now THAT'S a tasty burger!

Every line in Pulp Fiction is great. Not great dialog, but a great movie!
