Have you ever cut your own hair?
I have many times. I have these hair thinning scissors and watch out. I had to hide them. When my hair annoys me, I used to go for it. Then I'd trim the bangs. It's a good thing I don't have them anymore. The most embarassing part is when I do go to a hair dresser and they keep asking who did this to your hair.

So I ask this because my 17 year old cut her own hair last night. Took off about 8 inches. It looks nice but I did suggest she get it cleaned up by a professional. I never went that far when I cut my own hair although I've been tempted.

1. I cut my own
I got a store-bought haircut once. Made me look like my 6th grade gym teacher. Not good. I do a better job myself.
No. REALLY!

24. LOL! A sixth grade gym teacher! I don't know what exactly
that would look like but it can't be good!

I've cut my own hair and colored it...highlights..lowlights the whole enchilada for the past 7 years. I got sick of paying $150 each time and not getting what I wanted. So I figured it out and do it myself. Luckily I seem to have a natural "haircutting" knack.

A friend of mine with long hair wanted a change and he gave me the picture of Brad Pitt from the Mexican and I don't know how I did it but I gave him that exact haircut. He looked a lot hotter! But alas he is an Independent with Republican leanings....could never date him.

2. Yes
Still do, but I have a buzzcut.

Cut my own hair when I was 10. It was a short disaster, and looked funny in 1978. Had to go to the barber to get it cleaned up.

12. Flowbee's great. My dad has one.
He does his hair and my brother's hair, and the dog's butt when he gets his winter coat in. Uses different attachments for that, though.

4. I gave myself a haircut when I was 5
Unfortunately it was the day of photo retakes at school and I missed the first round of photos so it became my "official" kindergarten photo. I cut it in the bathroom at school at recess. It was a warm day and my hair was too long. It seemed like a good idea at the time. :dunce:

That damned picture still crops up every once in a while especially when we pull out the goofy family photos. And that one photo also explains why there are so few photos of me now. I hate having my picture taken.

I'd trim off the dead ends. But, I've never attempted to cut my own hair in a particular style.

glad the important part is going well.
the family is pretty good. working on my house, my glorious new bathroom will be done today!!! hired out most of the work, but i did the tiling, and am working on my laundry room myself, with my big daughter. lotta work, but always good to see progress.
artwork, as always, gets way too little of my time. very happy with the new stuff i am doing, tho. haven't done any clay since school, and got a studio in a clay co-op last spring. and it is really great.

17. I've cut mine
and it is embarrassing to go to a professional and have them look at it closely. Casually it looks pretty good, but close up you can see the problems with it. I confess before they get a chance to get close.

29. When my hair was three feet long
I cut two feet of it off at midnight sometime in 1996 (forget the day). My mom almost shit, which was strange because that's what she wanted, right?

That was the most painful cut I ever had to make, but I was the one who would make it, not anyone else.

33. Only My Bangs (when I had bangs)
My hairdresser taught me how to do it so I wouldn't have to come in just for bang trims. But I ahvent had bangs in awhile, so not recently (although I may go back to bangs to cover my forehead- less painful than Botox- and less expensive!)

36. sure -- you can save a lot of money that way...
Hardcore Do-It-Yourselfer here!

I started doing this a while ago to save money.

Cutting your own hair is actually pretty easy if you don't mind choosing between extremely short and shoulder length or longer. It's those in-between lengths that are hard to do on yourself.

My advice to anyone who wants to try this:

Remember to make all the partings first; don't just try to wing it. Know ahead of time what you're going to do with each section. Go slow, work in good light, and cut only a little bit at a time. Work on dry (or nearly dry) hair; cutting wet hair can yield unpredictable results.

Oh, and always use very sharp scissors. Dull ones create split ends.

I cut my own hair but it's not that complicated because my hair is long and straight, one lenght, so I just trim the bottom once in a while. That's too funny about the hair dresser asking who cut your hair. lol. I went to a salon once and the woman asked me the same thing! haha!
