Okay Trek fans, which one of the following DVDs would you buy?
If able to buy only ONE:

Generations
First Contact
Nemesis

Assuming the Collector's Editions will not be released for these movies, though Generation's theatrical cut is vastly different than the home video release.

1. Get the seasons if you don't have them
Trek theater isn't as good as the show.

TNG is my 2nd fav show(after Seinfeld), and I must say that watching through all the episodes is great(I have 3-7 on DVD).

So get the box sets first.

For the movies...First Contact is probably the best. Nemesis despite its flaws definitely has some good moments.

So uh, First Contact.

3. TV
Season 2 had its good episodes - enough to consider, but the few to be had in season 1 doesn't justify its price...

If the price for the TV series was reasonable (other tv shows have whole seasons for $60, so why is Paramount sleazing money from all the trek fans for twice the price?) then I'd buy seasons 2, 3, 4, and 7. Seasons 5 and 6 may have had a few good episodes, but there are far more bad ones to be found, and the bad ones are horrendous. :-( Season 7 was classic though, quite the comeback it was...

4. I whole heartedly object
Season 5 kick ass episodes:

Darmok
A Matter of Time
The Masterpiece Society
Conundrum
The Outcast<-----highly enjoyable
Cause And Effect
The First Duty
I, Borg<--------probably one of my top 5 favorites of all TNG
The Inner Light<-----Just about every Trekkies fav episode

and those are just hte ones I absolutely love...lots of other great episodes but not as polished.

http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/series/TNG/episodes/index.html?season=5

Season 6 kick ass eps:

Relics
Schisms
The Quality of Life
Chain of Command I & II<-------Stewart should have won an award for Part II
Ship In A Bottle<-----great episode following up on Moriarty's fate
Tapestry<-------quite simply the greatest episode of TNG ever
Frame of Mind
Second Chances
Timescape

again, those are only the creme of the crop...lots of other great eps in Season 6.

3 through 7 is simply phenomenal if you ask me...only a couple of crappers each season(besides 4, which there is not 1 bad episode).

Season 3 is my favorite season.

7. I kind-of agree :-)
I agree, season 3 has the most going for it in terms of freshness and newness - though it has some clunkers which make season 5's laughable stories look classic by comparison. I will NEVER EVER watch "The Enemy" because it's scientifically asinine. Vulcans and Romulans are offshoots of the same race, that has been said. Yet no shipboard Vulcan can give a Romulan blood and the only person who can is Worf, a considerably different Klingon?! I've nearly e-mailed the writer saying "Don't waste my time again when contriving a stupid morality play". If the injured party were a Klingon, the Worf subplot would otherwise have been VERY GOOD if not phenomenal. The other real clunkers was the late season 3 Troi/Lwaxana/Ferengi episode with the sexual title... ugh.

And season 4 had no total clunkers and the re-inroduction of Denise Crosby by the end held promise for the future, but the first 8 episodes of the season felt very similar in tone and all revolved around close family (or close friends, but that's close enough). But "Suddenly Human" is easily the worst of the initial 8 eps... They worked at the time (though "Suddenly Human" had moments which embarrassed me), but seem different now.

As for season 5 (here are what I think are the watchable-to-good episodes, some I like more than others - the ones I don't name are effectively phaser fodder):

Darmok (interesting premise, but basing the alien language as being a muddled form of English escapes me at the moment)
Unification
The Game
The First Duty
The Next Phase
Conundrum
A Matter of Time
Power Play
Silicon Avatar (grudingly)
Violations
Imaginary Friend
Ensign Ro
Cause and Effect (What's Kelsey "I'm Frasier because I can't play anybody else" doing at the end though? A Republican Trekkie, it boggles the mind and given Trek's liberal tendancies, a Republican Trekkie is a contradiction of terms!)

(And I respectfully disagree on "I, Borg", "The Masterpiece Society", and "The Outcast"... :-) "The Inner Light" is a nice idea on paper, but it bored me, but I should give it another chance... it's been 10 years since I've seen it.)

Season 6, the watchable to good eps - the ones I don't name are effectively phaser fodder:

Ship in a Bottle
Tapestry (utter classic!)
Relics
Schisms
Rascals
Timescape
True Q (despite the ripoff of the Wizard of Oz)
Starship Mine (though aged Picard manages to beat up a small handful of aliens in that one, it's still entertaining)
Chain of Command (reluctantly and because of Stewart's performance)

(I respectfully disagree with "The Quality of Life"... :-) )

Okay, I might buy season 5 if I get the cash. But season 6 is a definite low-point for the series.

8. alright...
well I have no idea how you can hate I, Borg...but the rest I can take your opinion on seriously.

I love The Outcast because it really gets into the idea of love...and what it is all about. There is a season 4 episode similar but with a different conclusion with Beverly(instead of Riker) called The Host. Some good parrallels between those episodes dealing with human love. Riker can reach beyond the norms of love but beverly can't. Anyhow...I enjoy both episodes and I think Riker makes the right decision.

And yes, Kelsey Grammar is an idiot. :)

I like The Enemy...it works well with The Defector and the tension with Tomolock.

Season 3 does have a couple of clunkers, yes...but it definitely has the best episodes.

The High Ground
Who Watches the Watchers?
The Enemy(I like it)
The Defector
The Offspring
Yesterday's Enterprise
The Most Toys
Sins of the Father
The Hunted
Best of Both Worlds Part I

I love all those episodes a lot.
