ag·o·ra·pho·bi·a ( P ) Pronunciation Key (gr--fb-) n. An abnormal fear of open or public places.
Fear of high places, when you are clumsy, and could fall, makes a lot of sense. Fear of open or public places is more difficult to explain. I don't mind small closed places at all. It's the open or public places that I fear.

She was actually get a doctorate in psychology. She had slight agoraphobia, and it hit her a little harder than usual when I took her home to meet Mom... who lives in Kansas. :)
Of course, I probably shouldn't have driven my vehicle off the road and through wheat fields exclaiming, "Look at all this wide open space! You can see for miles and miles and miles in ALL directions!"
Okay, that last paragraph is false.

4. I try not to let it bother me, and I go out to wide open public spaces, |
|
even though they are kind of scary. I try to defy the impulse to just stay in, and not go out.

The fear is that you'll do something embarrassing.
I've had it since 1975.

I am not a crowd-person. I don't like the bar, I don't like the State Fair, Disney World would probably give me a heart attack if I went back (last time I was there I was 12 and loved it).

10. Phobias don't make sense. That's why they're called phobias. |
|
A REAL fear based on reality is not a phobia. It is an ABNORMAL fear that is not based on reality that is a phobia. Or...well, you get the idea.
