"Two week wonders we called them, they didn't last very long, it don't matter how strong or how well trained you are, the first moment you step foot on a battlefield it changes you forever, tarawa was just another strip of land in the middle of nowhere but for many of us it would be the last place we ever saw."

3. Yeah...
bit wrenching when one of your squadmates goes down...I had that problem during the Guadalcanal part, at Henderson Field...but I'd REALLY like to see a WWI-based FPS, just for some variety...

5. ahh yes a WWI FPS
I also would love a game that focuses on the eastern front. I am looking forward to the release of Brothers in Arms, supposed to be both really realistic and you develop a great bond with your men, sigh I admit it, its the sensitive spot in me but I am always so happy to save a life.

7. I thought the Soviet part of Call of Duty was well-done...
especially Stalingrad and storming the Reichstag...I felt a lump in my throat when my comrades waved the hammer and sickle from the Reichstag roof...heh...

Then the character talks to his mother in letter about meeting an American soldier at the Elba, "I got the impression though I did not speak the same language as him that he was my brother."

11. Yeah, you can tell a game is good...
when you get emotionally involved...in some games (Medal of Honour series and Half Life 2 especally) I find myself going back to save points and trying to bring my squad/helpers/whatever through alive instead of using them as cannon fodder...

13. There was this guy in frontline in the after the drop mission
This private with the 82nd airborne, Jerry Langeau I think his name was, I had to protect Corporal Barnes but I also made it my duty to protect Langeau too, and ya know what, I got to the next level with him and Barnes both alive, and I was happy feeling like I had given that guy a chance to tell his kids and grandkids a tale, I know he's just a polygon but god, it just felt good, I realize that I'll never have a call of duty like my grandparents generation did but I found the closest thing to it in protesting what I consider injustice by the bush adminstration.

15. Speaking of moving quotes, etc...
her's one I found quite moving...from an anonymous Vietnam veteran...

"Thinking about Vietnam once in a while, in a crazy kind of way, I wish that just for a while I could be there. And then be transported back. Maybe just to be there so I'd wish I was back here again."

I dunno what it is but these games have made some people hawks, I can't see why, I hate seeing my comrades die. That beginning quote by Tommy is just so true.

switching to a different sound driver might help that problem...the default is Miles 2D positional audio, but if you have a 3d card you can switch to another sound driver...jthere's a guide on how to do it here... http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/mohaa/mohaa-4.shtml

46. I'd recommend doing the audio tweaks, even if you do reinstall...
the game sounds a lot better with the 3d drivers (use the DirectSound 3D hardware support one, it seems to work best)...and that game already has some of the best sound implementation I've heard, so you can imagine how much better it sounds...

At one point I stopped being able to load or start a single-player game and could only play multiplayer; a reinstall fixed it, though.
