Great Moments in Inaugural History. |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 11:50 PM by elperromagico
1841: William Henry Harrison delivers his inaugural address - the longest to date - in a driving, cold rain. He dies of pneumonia 30 days later.
1881: James Garfield is inaugurated as the 20th president. Moments later, he pushes his vice president Samuel Odie off of a table, and mails Chief Justice Nermal to Abu-Dhabi.
1909: Samuel Tilden shows up at the inauguration of William Howard Taft and insists upon being sworn in, despite the notable defect of being dead.
1925: A drunken Calvin Coolidge beats a man to death moments before taking the oath of office. With blood still dripping from his hands, he delivers the shortest address in history: "Fuck you."
1953: Dwight Eisenhower's first inaugural address is nothing more than a burped recitation of the alphabet.
1973: Richard Nixon, taking the oath of office for a second time, devotes much of his inaugural address to an ad for the Hair Club for Men.
1985: Ronald Reagan attends his own inauguration - announces in his address that "I was not inaugurated, nor do I recall ever being inaugurated."
2001: George W. Bush sworn in, immediately begins fucking up the country.

3. Harrison's was apparently the longest inaugural address ever. |
|

4. excellent list. So I'm watching Tony Danza this a.m. and he makes |
|
a sincere statement that he truly hopes Bu$h delivers an inspiring speech that will once and for all unite this country.
Somehow that moment in TV non-history complements your post.

5. When Tony Danza is worried about the disunity in the country, |
|
you know something's wrong.
