I was just called a pacifistic moron.....
by a (used to be) friend.
I feel quite honored.
Wrote him back..."Yep and damned proud of it!"
This was brought on but a "discussion" of whether Jesus was a liberal/pacifist or not. Of course, he being the closed-minded right winger that he is, said he could show me proof that I was wrong using the words of the Bible. While not a biblical scholar (or even especially spiritual), I do know it well enough to support my assertion. After about an hour or so, I recieve a scathing email from him with that line.
Ah what a beautiful Friday!!
Thanks for letting me rant.

2. So you didn't get your proof
and he's mad because he couldn't prove you wrong?

You don't need friends like that!

8. If he sent you "proof"
why not post it here. We would be happy to dissect it and there are quite a few here who know the Bible well and would probably make mincemeat of his argument.

Sadly, I've seen my circle of friends shrink as well and my contact with my family has been reduced. At this point, I think they may be feeling a little regret as they come to see how right we all were.

You always have your friends here, though.

15. He sent me this.....
"He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." Luke 22:36
It was after I sent him the very next verse....."37 It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'" that I got the moron comment.

20. I'm not one of those
who knows the Bible, so I can't really be of much help. I tried doing a Google search and it re-affirmed my position that people can quote scripture to reinforce their positions, whatever they may be.

However, it sounds like he wouldn't listen to whatever you came back with anyway.

28. tell him Luke had Altzheimers (sp?)
He is the only one who claims Jesus said to arm themselves. Even at that they only come back with two swords according to Luke. That sounds more like self defense. And then according to Luke, they were told to put away the swords later in the evening.

All the other witness accounts, Matthew, John etc.. tell us that Jesus said to put away the swords and healed the ear of the soldier that Simon Peter had "smited". They do not say anything about Jesus telling them to go buy or get swords.

So the general consenses of the Apostles is that he didn't tell them to buy swords, in fact he told them to put the swords away.

John 18:11
Jesus commanded Peter, "Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?"

9. True true.....
but it helps keep the debating and analytical (?) skills up.
Plus it sure does feel good to knock someone down a few notches (verbally) every now and then.

10. What Would Jesus Do?
I once worked with a freeper (actually quite a nice guy) Jesus freak who wore a "WWJD" bracelet and was very pro-gun/concealed carry. Do these people really think that if Jesus was around today he'd be packing a Glock??? Do they really think he'd be in favor of unilateral war? It just boggles the mind and I'm not even a Christian.

11. Gee, what part of "turn the other cheek" doesn't this guy understand?
Then there's that whole "do unto others" thing. How silly of me to interpret that as meaning not to bomb, maim, kill or otherwise injure your fellow man! :silly:

25. Well, if you don't want to read the entire New Testament,
Bartleby is your friend (sorry about the weirdo formatting):
The Great Commandment
Mt. 22.34-40
28 ¶ And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is,
Hear, O Israel;
The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 and thou shalt love the Lord thy God
with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,
and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: Deut. 6.4, 5
this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this,
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Lev. 19.18
There is none other commandment greater than these.

http://www.bartleby.com/108/41/12.html The King James Version, searchable online. This is Mark's Gospel, chapter 12, verses as marked. I'm more of a Historical Jesus boy, myself, but if they want to argue on this basis, I hope they enjoy losing.
