While you're standing in a crowd of people, abruptly yell "Get your hand outta my pocket!!" to the person standing next to you, and look at them menacingly.

Hiding ones face can be more menacing, especially if you have a baby face.

16. Maybe not intimidating but... |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 03:13 PM by MostlyLurks
I have a bad habit of looking at things (i.e. any object that isn't the person I'm talking to) while I am talking to people, then when the conversation "turns" (i.e. gets interesting, confrontational, whatever) I then focus on them very intently. I've had people tell me it's a bit off-putting - maybe you could incorporate something like that into a larger repertoir of mannerisms.
Mostly
Added on edit: Also, a lot of mass/serial/spree killers are very affable and friendly in the same way Joe Pesci was in "GoodFellas". Sometimes being nice in odd situations can be very intimidating.

18. I learned this in mediation, look betweeen the eyes, not into the eyes. |
|
They can't tell the difference and you don't get caught up in them. Easier to keep looking without laughing on stage! (that's me, I crack up a lot...)

20. If you have a few months, put on some muscle |
|
That can be indimidating. I mean do a dirty bulk by putting on a little fat with the muscle. When the play is done, you can lose the fat and have lots of muscle. However, this will take time.

Being a clerk in a bad neighborhood. I've had to deal with confrontations inside and outside my store.
Now, I may be 6' and 230lbs, but I have heart and kidney conditions and am in poor physical shape.
I've been threatened with physical harm on a few occasions, and I never respond to that, I just keep up with my original request, like to leave the property, or that in fact we do not give cash refunds or accept returns on sex toys. I can be very apoligetic while being firm, but I never show fear.

29. I usually work alone, I have to play both good cop and bad cop |
|
so I have developed personas.
For the bad cop part, I stand tall, not stretching, you understand, just maximizing what height I have. I ensure my shoulders are square, my stomach tense, my head erect. I don't smile, I don't frown. I wear a neutral expression. I maintain apparent eye contact, that tip about looking at the bridge of the nose rather then eyes is a good one. I stay light on my feet. I keep my distance most of the time, a safety issue, but it also sets a tone. When I do move closer to make a point that closeness comes as a definite change from the pre-established social distance.
I do a pretty good job at this. I'm possibly the nicest guy I know but this persona has been known to make people cry. Nothing violent, just a very sure knowlege that I'm in control.
I have a good cop persona too, that more accurately reflects the real me.

Try smiling with Just your mouth; don't let your eyes get into the game.
Try and control your blinking; it really is creepy when someone doesn't blink a lot.
Understating the menace is better than overstating.
