He was one of the Merry Pranksters for a while, was associated with The Hog Farm (a commune devoted to activism and entertainment).
His name is Hugh Romney. Been telling everyone I know in Massachusetts that if they'd elected Hugh Romney instead of Mit Romney, they wouldn't be grumbling now. *smile*
Cheers.

That's no name for a hippie! No wonder he changed it!
"Hugh Romney" sounds like the name of cast member in a BBC drama.

4. I remember when Mr Cheney, errr, Burns, impersonated him |
|
On a Greenpeace boat:
"The man who walks among you is NOt Wavy Gravy. And I've been smoking harmless tobacco from this bong the whole time!" --Mr. Cheney, ummm, Burns "The Simpsons"

5. Even before I had ever heard of him... |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 04:50 PM by uberotto
I had heard the quote he is (probably) most famous for...
he stood on the Woodstock stage and announced, "What we have in mind is breakfast in bed for 400,000!"

|
Wavy was the man at Woodstock, and totally captured the idea of being a flower child, while he worked hard to see that food was delivered to the tired, cold, and hungry masses.
Last I heard he was still living on a commune on the west coast.

Ol' Gravy doesn't have many brain cells left, but he still gets out there and works for good causes. BTW, he's not the "last" hippie. There's lots of us left....

27. Isn't he in that movie? |
|
Anyway, I spent a few months in the Haight-Ashbury myself back in 1967--would probably be a good story if I remembered more than constantly taking the seeds out of the pot. I do also remember that I was so lethargic back then that, though we didn't have jobs, I took my laundry to the cleaners.
