I think that you included songs that Paul wrote as a Beatle, and performed/recorded after the official break-up. There is not really a clear distinction in many cases of Beatle versus post-Beatle songs. While "All Things Must Pass" was a great "solo" effort, for example, George wrote most of those songs as Beatle George.

I do appreciate what you're saying, of course. So I'll go with "Maybe I'm Amazed," although Beatle Paul started the song, and solo Paul finished it. (grin)

Thanks for putting up a thread on (post) Beatle music. Best darned music ever made. And there is no doubt that Paul could write some serious lyrics when the mood struck. I never get tired of listening to him.

it's important to remember that three of the four Beatles began their solo careers primarily by recording songs they wrote as Beatles. Paul, like John and George, had a fantastic collection of songs that were anywhere from works in progress to complete songs, that were "album worthy" at the time of the break-up. Sometimes it's easier to look at George: Paul never appreciated his work in the 1967-69 (true break-up) era; John simply lost interest in helping George because of two factors -- Yoko in his life, religion in George's.

So when they went into the studio, by 1968, John and Paul were holding George to two songs per album (4 on the double) and so he accumulated songs. The group rejected a number of each of George, Paul, and John's songs for albums, due in part to space, and in part to taste. One can hardly imagine John and Paul participating in the background vocals for "My Sweet Lord," for example.

George put out the first "non-Beatle" album as a Beatle. Then John put out Plastic Ono Band material. But they were still the Beatles, kind of. At best, they wrote individually, and used the others as a back-up studio band. Other songs have one or two Beatles alone. Only Paul and John are on "The Ballad of John and Yoko." And John released "Give Peace A Chance" sans Beatle identity, though before the break-up.

Paul's first solo album, McCartney, was released to compete with the Let It Be album. So, yes, Paul wrote all the songs you listed, but several of them were songs he wrote as a beatle.

Paul is greatly unappreciated as a poet. Some of his songs were terrible (Your Mother Should Know; Ob La Awful; etc) but he also wrote some really great lyrics. Certainly, his best songs were authored with John, who helped with some lyrics. But Paul's best work is fantastic. Eleanor Rigby, Blackbird, Het Jude, and others are very good.

Hey Jude - a love song, but for Julian Lennon, who was going through the very tough divorce of his parents. Julian was really more Paul's son, as John said things like Julian was born out of a whiskey bottle...

In fact... I would say you'd be hard-pressed to find a "silly love song" once you get beyond Paul's "silly love song phase", which ended right around Revolver. Except Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da... which is nothing more than a vanity silly love song.

If you consider Maxwell's Silver Hammer to be a love song ...... then you need professional assistance :)

11. I Missed The 76 Tour...

I saw the 90 and 93 tours...


The 90 tour was awesome... He filled RFK Stadium three nights in a row... I saw him on the July 4th show...

Some people were literally crying when he did Let It Be and Hey Jude....


I have seen him four times-DC and Miami in 90.... Charlotte and Orlando in 93...


I have also been fortunate to see some of my other favorite musicians like Clapton and the Stones...

I actually really love "Here Today" from the Tug of War album. He wrote that after John Lennon was murdered. So sad; I cry everytime I hear it (including when we saw Macca play it in concert).
