Question about the Hudsucker Proxy
I've probably watched it 5 or 6 times - I love that movie. My bf had never seen it, so we watched it last night, and he had a GREAT question.

When Moses the clock man stops time to save Norville from falling to his death, they show other characters (like Paul Newman) frozen in time. But yet Moses and Aloysius, Mussberger's spy, are still moving and in fact have a fight over re-starting the clock. Now since Moses is the clock-keeper, I guess I can understand his being outside of its effects - but why wasn't Aloysius frozen, too?

1. I don't know
But that's a cool flick. Shame it went nowhere. I loved Newman ("Sure-sure") and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

2. I think it's due to the Coriolous Effect.
Probably.

3. I Don't Know Either,...
...but maybe being in the ROOM made one immune.

My wife and I were just talking MINUTES ago about how much we liked that movie.

Doesn't Jennifer Jason Leigh do a PERFECT Jean Arthur impression as her performance?

4. but Aloysius was watching him fall
from the window of Norville's office. I presumed it was only when he saw time stop he ran into the clock room.

6. Because he's EVIL and evil people don't play by the rules!
(see Bu$h Administration)

Maybe it's too simplistic but I thought both men were the personification of good vs evil.

7. yeah
they seem to be. But it was just odd that Paul Newman was frozen in the next room, but his right-hand man was running around fighting Moses.

8. I need to dig out my tape.
Those two characters seemed "other-worldy" to me. Other than Moses shaming JJL's character and Aloyisus sneering at Norville I don't remember them interacting with others.

Damn Coens and their plot devices.

Good night!
