Butyric acid is the component that makes the things I mentioned stink-bad. Real bad. I always associate 'rancid' with butter. Just as a phrase, not an experience.

And his decomposing body was permeating everything in the hotel room, from the walls to the furniture to even the beer, turning a week of debauchery on Miami Beach into a rancid affair.

OOhhh-wait! Was his decomposing body permeating everything in the hotel room? Or was the smell from his decomposing body permeating everything in the hotel room? I am assuming the AC was off for some reason...
