"Amber" used to be a very nice name, but in the 80s, all the porn stars started using it and kinda ruined it.
Some people have never seen a porn film and thus never think of it. I suppose they should be commended for that.
I ain't that pure...

The irony was that by the time she was in high school she was quite the trollop. Guess Chastity wasn't such a great name after all.

My name is Scott - the "Jayden" of the seventies.
The only serious side of this topic for me is that I wish parents would not use such conformist names, and try to be original, but dignified.
My son is Isaac - means "laughter", and I just like the way it sounds.
Youngest is Joseph, after his grandpa.
Anyway, FWIW, sorry for any bruised feelings.

NIN, for example, has been a product from day one, corporate through and through. But that doesn't mean Trent Reznor isn't a talented musician and that the music doesn't have value. Marilyn Manson's whole schtick is just that, a schtick - not a real statement. People have do do whatever it takes to make it. It's great to be purrely authentic and "real, but it sucks being broke.
What might seem very "edgy" and "authentic" in Dallas, may seem manufactured and fake in LA. It doesn't really matter. Things go out of style, then they come back again. Can you believe, Duran Duran is selling out stadiums again?
Just don't take it too seriously, is all I'm saying.
EDIT: reminds me of the skit they had on SNL making fun of the Goth kids, one called himself "Azrael". Ten years later, kids like that would probably feel embarrassed of that stage in life, but after another ten years, they might look back on it fondly and have a chuckle at it.
In the late 80s, I used to have my hair sprayed and teased up into the sky and posed as some sort of club kid. It was fake and stupid, but so what? It was something to do.

80. LOL! Yeah, now that's bad! |

I'm not a big fan of Hazel or Ruth. I think the above list is pretty tame.

77. Other...The names people make up for their kids |
|
that their kids can't properly pronounce until all their adult teeth have grown in.
In bringing a brief assembly program to elementary school age kids, I'd ask their names before letting them put a fiddle under their chin. I can't tell you how many times I'd have to ask 3 times before giving up on knowing.

The absolute worst name for a girl. I knew a grown woman, a successful, hard nosed businesswoman named Honey. I think she was so hard nosed (OK, she was a bitch), because of her name.
I mean, seriously, a 40 year old corporate director named Honey? Can you imagine? What were her parents thinking?

86. This is my wife's vote, she's looking over my shoulder. |
|
She was born in Brooklyn and so was I. The name "Brooklyn" makes us think of Flatbush, a slum area with the word "Bush" in it. (Last we looked it was a slum anyway.)
We'd love to vote agains Reagan, but for us, "Brooklyn" is the worst.

Which name do you think? Brecklyn Kate OR Ridgely Mae I'm torn between the 2. Thanks Brooke
And I'm torn between why your name ideas are "Welshman recites New York's boroughs" and "The other guy from Wham."
Why not something hip and modern, like "Stetten Eeland" and "The bassist from Culture Club."

Not Top 100, but... my sister is a teacher and one of her fellow teachers announced that this will be the name of her soon-to-be-born daughter. I think this name is awful, but maybe it's just me...

96. Any name that is either typically male or a geographical term |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 10:27 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
Examples:
Taylor, Avery, Madison, Sierra, Dakota, Michael, Reagan, Billy, and all their ilk. The worst I ever heard was a little girl named Jackson. Yuck!
What's with the male names? Are the parents expressing their disappointment that they didn't have a boy? Are males going to have any names left?
"Oh, here are my daughters, Thomas and Robert." :eyes:
