Why do the Braves suck so bad in post season play? |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 09:59 PM by sasquatch
I call'em the Chokes because everytime they're in the playoffs they lose to teams they should beat. I think the National League should ban them from post season play. BTW GO CUBBIES!!

They are like the Minnesota Vikings of the National LEague. But I was extremely disappointed by the total lack of fan support during this series. More Cub fans than Braves fans at Turner field (or at least it sounded like it). It disgusts me. Here they have a team that wins a lot and they can't be bothered to show up for a playoff game. Maybe the BRaves should have a few losing seasons to show the fans what they really had. I am sure that was not the only factor. I mean Woods was quite impressive; I hope the Cubs do well (but I am rooting for the MArlins). All I really care about now is that the Yankees lose. God do I hate them. Go Red Sox.

3. I remember when the Braves REALLY sucked |
|
When I was a kid and they would play the Reds. The Braves were so bad that more people showed up at the games to sun bathe insted of watching baseball. True story.

4. Could be, but I doubt it. |
|
The FSU fans do it and their team doesn't seem to be as bad in post season play as the Braves. Maybe it's an Indian curse. Teaches them for having their own tv network so they've got unlimited advertising and coverage with no blackouts.

11. I hate that tomahawk chop thing. |
|
The chant, the drum, the pantomine of chopping.
Its a severe appropriation (and mockery) of culture in a cartoonish fashion for a very trivial purpose.
I know I'm probably over-reacting put it really rubs me the wrong way.

14. Great-Great grandfather...What you would know as Mingo or Iriquois |
|
But most people with a family who immigrated here over 200 years ago have some native roots. So I'm not claiming any special "right to be offended."
I'm uncomfortable with cultures and traditions being cheapened. I don't think much of the drunken, clownish revelry St. Paddy's Day has generally become either.
And it was a Great-Great grandmother who was the last native Irish in my lineage.
Yes. Married to THAT full-native American.
They died long before I was born. But I've often wondered about that match-up.
According to family lore, it was quite the love affair.
Makes the imagination run, doesn't it?

15. I know quite a bit bout Mingo's and Iriquois |
|
Their roots are from Ohio. The Mingo's were once slaughtered in an ambush by a man named Jacob Greathouse. The worse act he commited against the Mingo's when he took a 8 month pregnant squal and tied her up to a tree. He then took his tomahawk and sliced her stomach open letting the fetus and all fall out to the ground making her bleed to death. She was the sister of the Mingos Chief Logan. This upset him greatly and he said "his tomahawk will not go into his sheath unti he had 30 white scalps". Cheif Logan got the scalps and emigrated his people farther north into Ohio. 20 years later Jacob Greathouse and his family were ambushed by Shawnee Indians and killed in revenge for Chief Logan's sister. The worse of the punishments was when Jacob and his wife were tied to a tree, their stomachs sliced open, their intestines tied to the tree and told to march till they died. Jacobs wife died instantly losing 6 feet of her intestines, Jacob wasn't that lucky he died after he lost over 20 feet of his intestines. That's a brief of the Mingo's, I hoped you liked it.

I can't do anything about that.
I can't be sure I'd do any less given the alternative.
Ohio and the Ohio valley region has many horror stories in regards to genocide.
I also know the Iriquios society was the basis for much of Bill of Rights. They had a very highly developed social system.
(You know about the Mingo Trail?)

5. Yep, they choked again |

But I'm glad they at least choked early, allowing the Cubs to advance, instead of beating the Cubs and then choking against the Marlins

Because the Vikes were always favored in every Super Bowl they played in (I think) and lost miserebly everytime.

The Vikes were the under dogs against at least the Steelers and the Raiders. Still the Vikings (a team I have rooted for since 1970 or so) hold a couple of Dubious Super Bowl records. One the least yards gained on the ground - 1975 against the Steelers. And in the 4 Super Bowl games they were in, they were never ahead, not for a minute. The best they were was when it was 0-0.
Edit - I can't spell.

20. I'm glad the Braves stink in post season |
|
It's the fans. That chop is so stupid and annoying; and they stole if from the Seminoles. Glad they lost.
As for the Cubs, I hope the make it to the series. I can't stand the Fish. The Cubs deserve to get there. But, that's where the rooting stops, because in all probability, they'll be playing my Yankees.
