I am listening to this CD now. What is your favorite song from this album? I would have to say the entire second side is my favorite part.
What happened to good music? I guess we will never see an era like the '60s again. So much great music and great artists. :-(

1. The entire second side, except for "Here Comes The Sun" - |
|
has always seemed like one long song suite.
That said, "Come Together" is my favorite song on the album.

13. Polythene Pam is one of my favorite songs |
|
and I never see it mentioned. It is good to see someone else lists it as their fave off that CD. I like Mean Mister Mustard a lot too (I think that is the title).

"Here Comes the Sun" is hauntingly beautiful.
"Something" is one of the best love songs around.
"Oh! Darling" is just one hell of a good rock tune.
"I Want You" is a monster trippy, bluesy, psychedelic rockfest.
"Because" - great lyrics, great use of synths, great vocal harmonies.
In the end I probably have to go with "Something".

9. Oh! Darling: one of my favorite McCartney performances... |

Heard he yelled for quite a while before the taping to rough up his voice.
"Believe me, darlin'"

but I consider it a sentimental favorite. :-)

equally great album, if not greater. "You have to admit it's getting better..." :)
If I had to die and had only one album to choose. it was always a toss up between Sgt's and Abbey.

12. My love for the Beatles!!!! |
|
Thanks for the welcome and thread re Beatles. I've been a fan since I was a little kid... I'm 25. I remember the day I "discovered" them. One day I just happened to hear "Something" on the radio and I asked my older sister who was singing. I've been devoted ever since. When I was in college I took a musicology class that was supposed to focus on popular music of the 20th century. Supposed to be a real sleeper. A visiting professor was teaching that semester and decided that the class would instead focues on the Beatles and their influences. Needless to say I almost died of happiness.

but first, I'm surprised some young Democrat on this thread hasn't asked "whaddaya mean side 2? My CD only has a shiny side and a label side!!"
On June 1, 1987 I was dutifully in line at my local music store to buy the just-released CD of Sgt. Pepper. It was being released on the 20th anniversary of the album's initial release (forgive me, longtime Beatles fans. You already know this.) The woman in line in front of me had 3 copies, one for herself, the others gifts, she said.
Anyway, the cashier rings her up and sends her on her way. My turn. I asked the kid on the register "You been selling a lot of these today, I bet??"
Kid says yeah, he already had to unbox two cases, and he didn't understand what the deal was:
"IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S A NEW BON JOVI CD OR ANYTHING."
It took all the power of the Force to keep me from exploding into a gaseous vapor.

I highly recommend a Best Beatles album thread. I'd start it myself, but I don't want to steal your thunder. Besides, I'm sure this has already been done(but can one really talk about the Beatles too much?).
Thanks for the thread. Abbey Road is a classic.

21. You Never Give Me Your Money |

I'll never get over those sublime, crazy shifts through all those musical styles - ballad to hard rock; and I get chills every time I hear "Oh that magic feeling, nowhere to go" over those wonderous bright guitar arpeggios.
Look out for the new stripped down Let It Be, with all the Phil Spector stuff removed, out in November. . .called Let It Be. . .Naked
