Anyone else feel they "Missed out" on something.... |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 10:42 PM by Longgrain
Either during their college, or high school years?
Did you ever feel "left out" or that you "Didn't belong"?
That you weren't sophisticated or educated enough to keep up?
If so, I'd love to hear from you...

Although I don't know how prolific he is being now since all he seems to be doing is sending me pictures via email
but, he's my dad, and I love him anyway!
Besides, I wouldn't have known about DU without him

If I told y'all what I missed out on you'd want to buy me a beer.
Without going into detail here, I literally missed out on millions of dollars because I was silly enough to follow my heart rather than my wallet.
But, if I had followed my wallet in 1996, I'd have all the time in the world to follow my heart today.
Have I depressed everyone yet?

Although, I was home schooled my entire life. Only kids I played with my own age were neighbors, but then we would move. Then we came to the town we live in now, and I had a good friend that I met during a summer job, but she was 4 years older then me, and we drifted apart when she turned 21.
So other then a handful of friends, everyone I've known ever known has been older. So I miss out on lots, because I can't go and do every thing everyone else can.
Oh well lol. :)

but at the same time ,I had friends - and people always came to me .
As far as dating , i did not go on my first date , get my first kiss or get my first boyfriend until I was 19 years old .
And I am also very shy . Totally shy . People tell me I am pretty but I just feel like me .

10. I missed out on the period where I had a whole bunch of sex during college |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 10:49 PM by tjdee
...I didn't have any wild boyfriends, crazy parties, or anything. Didn't have sex till after college graduation.
To keep this as rated G/un-deletable as possible, and completely seriously, I almost feel like it's a shame, because now I have post-pregnant body (stretch marks, droopy ladies) which can be frightening and a major turn off to a number of men. Not like I'd sleep with a number of men. Ahem.
So in that way I kind of feel like I missed out.
Which is really a minor self-pitying thing, so I should feel lucky and happy with how my life turned out. It was the first thing that came to mind, and that bothers me more than the other thing I could say, which is being a young person out of school, living on my own, totally free (got the kid). That doesn't bother me as much.

Did you stay with relatives when you were pregnant/had your baby?
I did...
And luckily, I have all the Pringles and ice cream to myself now because my kiddo went to sleep (she's in kindergarten). How old is yours?

and I move in with my mom about 6 months ago, when I moved back to MD. Now she is mad at me because I fixed the book she just tore, and won't let her write in it, all as she watches the Lion King (we are going to bed SOON!)

I have less than a year till I graduate and lets just say that my social life has been less than social during my college career.
They say that these are the best years of your life, don't get me wrong I'm having fun and all, but if my life goes downhill from here, I'm in a lot of trouble!

...or alone at the movies. So yeah, I have to assume that I missed out on something back then.
And because I'm still a loner, I must be missing out on something now! :(

13. The answers to your questions...yes, yes and yes |
|
Parties, dating, the fun of it all...I had a gruelling schedule in college. I had a three to four hour commute alone, and then I worked about 25 hrs a week p/t.
And I mean Canadian college, which isn't university. If I had thought I was smart enough, and went to university instead, I think my life would have been much different. I did eventually get there, 10 years later.
I didn't fit in anywhere. I can count on one hand the number of parties I was invited to in those times. I think I was born old, and am finally loosening up as I grow older.

I have 3 years of a BFA in acting/theatre. Instead of noting that one needs analytical/critical thinking, literacy, discipline, vision, problem solving skills, adaptability, good communicative/speaking skills as well as the ability to work well in groups and a whole bunch of other ones that my flu-laden brain will not let me recall, I guess I'm just an unreliable goofball who needs attention and doesn't want a real job. Or so they think. :eyes:
I don't think the outside world realizes how many skills we have.

24. Yeah, stay at home with parents while going to college |

Let's say it put a big damper on my social life. I never felt like an adult until I finally left home. Plus, I hated the school I attended, I have yet to attend an event there since I left home.

29. HS was a very odd experience for me |
|
I was the typical "gotta get into Harvard or my life will be forever ruined" overachiever; you know, the 4.00 GPA, 4 AP classes a semester, all while playing a varsity sport, science GEEK. I didn't party. I didn't date til Freshman year of college- which, for the record, was last year. I don't remember HS much to be honest...I was too stressed. I wasn't happy, but I wasn't unhappy either. I was just too stressed out to feel anything.
