Anyone else more attracted to people of a different color than yourself? |
|
I am not talking about physical attraction but mental attraction. As a white person it seems I tend to like more Black people than white people. I don't dislike white people and in fact I like many white people more than some black people but as a whole I think Black people are more friendly, funny and have more style and soul. I wish I could just see everyone as a person and not see color but the fact is I don't. I am not trying to kiss up to Blacks I am saying exactly what I feel. When I see a black person I don't know I usually get a more positive feeling than when I see a white person. I was wondering if this might have to do with the fact that Blacks tend to be Democrats more often and Whites Republicans? I could simply be prejudice of Republicans and anyone who looks like one.
Anyway, my best friend is a Gay Black guy which I think makes me about the least prejudice straight white person on the planet. That is accept for my prejudice of yuppie white republicans.
I have a friend who is white and he loves the Mexican culture in the same way I love the Black culture. Who else is more attracted to the culture of people of a different color?

2. Definite preference for Asians, esp. Japanese |
|
Both a physical reaction, but also the mental attraction you are looking for - I have a tendancy to assume that Asians, esp. Japanese, are going to be intelligent, curious, able to process data well, and civilized and well-behaved.

4. Culturally, that's not an unfair assumption |

At least the Chinese and Japanese cultures have great emphasis on mental discipline... it's one of the reasons some of the world's premier classical musicians come from these countries.

My prejudice is gained through years of experience. And what I value most in people is competence and intellectual acuity and a strong work ethic and self-control and a love of thinking about things.
And, admittedly, the vast majority of my experience with Asian people has been with educated, english-speaking, professional ones.

around with the black employees. Most of my white co-workers were conservative Repubs and all the blacks were Dems so I had more in common with the blacks. Also, they lacked the pretentious stuffiness of many of my white co-workers and shared my somewhat negative attitude about management...
The only friend I've maintained from my 25 year career there since retirement is a black man. We see each other socially a couple of times a month. BTW he's straight and he and his wife both enjoy hanging around us and some of our other gay friends.

6. Yeah, I'd have to say it's Native Americans for me. |

I just understand them better. There's very few white people I'm close to. We just don't care about the same things. Hell, when I think of it, most of my close associations are people of color. I guess I never really thought much about it. Somehow I just don't see color much. That's pretty cool, I didn't know that about myself. Thanks Quixote 1818.

but I'm a white WASP, and I generally am attracted to women who are of Mediterranean descent, such as Greeks, Italians, Spanish, Argentinians, etc.

9. I was just thinking this evening... |
|
...about how even though I married a white man (whom I am quite attracted to), the strangers I am most attracted to tend to be black men. I know that's not exactly what you asked, but it was a strange coincidence.

is that assholes come in all colors.
As far as I'm concerned, 8 to 80. Red, green, blue, black, brown, white or purple. If they look good and have a brain and a pulse, works for me.

My next door neighbors are a black family, as are several others in my neighborhood. Nice people all, as far as I can tell. Better than at least one of my white neighbors. On the other hand, I have never been mugged by a white man, something I can't say about black men.
I tend to like people based on our commonality of interests; skin color is totally irrelevant to me. However, this does tend to mean that I associate more with whites than blacks. I see nothing wrong with this, any more than that I prefer vanilla ice cream to any other flavor, and egg pie to any other pie. That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy other types of ice cream and pie.
