WTF??!! Someone shot my cat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My poor Cinders. She came home Saturday with a hurt leg. It was bleeding just a little, like it was scratched or bit. I just picked her up from the vet after work today and he showed me her XRays. Too big for a BB, probably a pellet. WTF????????????????? It broke her ulna and she's in a splint for 3 weeks. She can't even walk with it. Poor poor thing. What the hell are people thinking?????????????????????????

77. I understand...
While I wouldn't want to see anyone shot, it's in one way sadder when it happens to an animal that can't possibly understand why.

This is one reason why my cats stay indoors, and why the doggies go out only on leashes.

62. Yes, but I gotta agree with Matcom
I had an outdoor cat that I had to put down last year. He had FIV (caught from another outside cat), he lost a leg to skin cancer, and was mildly poisoned by someone in the neighborhood. Lucky for me I live on a quiet street-a friend saw a guy run down and kill her neighbor's cat with his vehicle. There are just too many sickos in our modern world, and too many sick pets in our neighborhood. I feel awful that one of those sickos tried to kill Cinders, but I also think it may be time to consider an indoor only life for her (I walk one of my indoor only cats on a leash every night, and she does very well with it).

6. Police report...
It should be fairly easy to track down the culprit. Pellet guns should not be given to children. Because things like this happen!

Just be happy she is alive and protect her as best you can. Let everyone in your neighborhood know. Write your paper. Get the community to help you. Catch the kid and get his gun taken away. Make him pay for this! poor kitty

Good luck.

18. Believe me, it is not just children...
My former next door neighbor in Lubbock used to think it was great fun to shoot cats that came into the yard (with a pellet gun), and watch them run away. At one point he told me that he had shot his wife's cat in the butt. Guess what? The old cat came to my door and informed me, in his own inimitable cat way, that he wanted to move. And move he has, from Lubbock to College station to Fayetteville. He is now 25 human years old and is sitting beside me as I write this. People who are cruel to animals suck, just suck. Furthermore, cats are more likely to be attacked for some bizarre reason. My babies stay inside.

28. I had an adult neighbor in the city
that used to shoot squirrels and birds with pellet guns. He nearly got me in the head trying to shoot a squirrel that had run up a tree I was standing under. I will never forget the wizz sound.

I couldn't get the cops to do anything about it until the day I walked out my door and he was aiming at a cardboard target facing our home with a bow and arrow. We'd already found the arrow tips laying outside our door and wondered where they'd come from.

I often wonder how many animals he maimed or killed.

Not when the police will be just likely to tell you to go home and be glad the cat's still alive. In the majority of places the police won't do anything about animal abuse UNLESS you have an animal cruelty unit (usually attached to your local shelter) that has the power to ask for and get warrants that the police have to serve.

It will still be classified as a misdemeanor, even if the cat died and if it's a kid he'll get off with a warning and nothing more.

I'm sorry this happened to your baby. I'm even sorrier that the law won't allow for the kind of prosecution that is needed.

15. I'm fairly sure my neighbor tried to poison my dogs
I live in a townhouse so we all share yards for the most part.. She had popcorn spread out all over her front yard, and as my dogs passed by on a walk they noticed it and one started to eat it. Within 30 minutes, she puked about 4 times. It could have just been a coincidence, but my neighbor is a Repuke (she knows I'm a Liberal) and a dog hater, so I put 2 and 2 together. There's no way to prove it because the popcorn is gone, and my dog is fine now.

We all know what happens to people that first start abusing animals. I am so sorry about your cat, I would be so wild, there would be no containing me. I don't agree about keeping the cat housebound. I have one cat that I got as a stray and was no doubt kept as an indoor cat. That cat is so gleeful everytime I let her out. She does this thing, I'm not supposed to do this, I'm not supposed to do this..and the darts out two inches onto the deck.

My grandma keeps a pellet gun on the back porch so she can shoot (she can't hit a damn thing) the cats that 'shit in her garden.' And if that's not enough, my grandad bought a 'cat-trap' deal that is similar to stick/box/acorn/squirrel trick.

But yea, sorry for your cat :(

Doesn't it make you want to find the idiot that shot her? It's sad that some people have no regard for living creatures. When I was a kid, I lost a cat because somebody shot her. She managed to make it home and died at my feet. I was around 12 or so and will never forget seeing the bullet hole, then turning her over and seeing that it had gone completely through her.

Supposedly he was in their yard about to mess with their ugly toy poodles. If they would have told him to get or called us, Hank would never have hurt anything or gotten after their dog. While the dog was a horny bastard, he was the sweetest dog ever. Stupid bastards shot him in the chest and he died soon after. It nearly killed my dad. He took him down to the creek and put him out of his misery. He was never quite the same with the animals after that.
I know how you feel. At least the cat lived though. You still have that. Good luck.

39. From the x-ray...
...that doesn't look like an air-rifle pellet.

A cat's leg is not large enough to deform a pellet into a ball shape like that; I would guess that came from a shotgun.

Did your vet do a full-body X-Ray? There may be more pellets where that one came from!

Our cat 'Yo-Yo' looks alot like her; she was one in the last litter of parking-lot cats at the apartment house where I lived...Until the redneck closet-cases got it in their drunken heads to lure the cats in with food and then shoot them all.
Yo-Yo was the only survivor...we trapped and adopted her, and the apartments now have a serious RAT problem. Karma...and a foretaste of HELL for those sick pieces of human SHIT.

I have always believed that people treat animals the way they would treat other people _IF_ they could get away with it.
You really need to find out who did this, just so you can AVOID them as much as possible.

And, if their house should happen to burn down some night, and their insurance doesn't cover ARSON...well, I mentioned KARMA already.

Best wishes to your kitty and her speedy recovery!

Some people have no conscience. I remember about ten years ago I was jogging and ran across three punks with pellet gun shooting these beautiful ducks in the pond in my then neighborhood. I lost it. Took their guns away from them and almost came to punches with them, but they never shot at those ducks again. And just recently, I saw a father and sun in my new neighborhood shooting turtles that were sunning in the creek that passes through my area. WTF?

54. That sucks. I have been there.
My cat Peanut was shot in the chest with a pellet gun back in '94. He nearly died and it cost me $500 i didn't have to fix him up. He ended up getting hit by a car before I finished paying the vet. :(

This is his name sake Tupea (2-Pea)

She is a wonderful looking cat. I hope whoever did this will have it come back on him ten-fold.

My neighbor Floyd, who cuts my hay had a similar experience with a dog. He adopted one of the dogs his tenents had to give up after their house burned, I took in this pups parents and sister. The house was across the street from my place.
He stopped by on his way home from the vet to cut the hay and figured they would enjoy a family reunion. I asked him what happened and he said the dog was shot near his farm by some punks. He is pissed and plans to pursue the matter further. This is a shot of him in my house relaxing after a long family reunion with his parents, sister and his three little brothers he hadn't met before.

The bullet was a rifle bullet. The vet didn't know if he would ever walk right again. It hit right at the (knee???) joint and they rebuilt it as best they could.

I hope Floyd takes care of the punk that did this.

Not that expect anything to come of it, but I do want it on the record. That was a pretty hefty Vet bill, that I would love to take out of someone's hide. That and just to see who the hell would do some something like this.

edit for spelling

78. Keep your pretty cat indoors!
Bad things happen to kitties who go outside. They get hit by cars, people are mean to them, dogs chase them up trees.

Your cat is really beautiful.

82. Definitely keep her inside.
This is one reason that people shouldn 't allow their pets to run loose outside. There are too many crazy people out there that like to use animals for target practice.
