Speilberg and remake of War of the Worlds.

One movie that would inevitably be remade and one I kinda had been hoping for given the current "whiz-bang" special effects and CGI possible.

The original was suburb for it's time... and still is today (like the original King Kong).

Tom Cruise in the lead role... maybe, I'm not sure.

Spielburg as the director... I couldn't think of a better choice other than perhaps John Carpenter or James Cameron.

1. With these guys in it it should be faithful to the book.

as set 100+ years into the future (early 21st century as opposed to late 19th century). I may be surprised but that fact alone coupled with Tom Cruise, Spielberg and what I've seen from the teaser says it's going to suck.

I'd rather see a big screen adapation of Jeff Wayne's musical version of War of the Worlds.

What on the trail didn't you like. England was destroyed in the book,in case you didn't read it,so the destruction in the trailer seems following the story.

6. Spielberg and Cruise

are just not the right directors for this kind of story. I don't think Spielberg has the right sensibility to pull it off without reducing it into a cheezy horror movie -- which admittedly is hard to do because it's a cheezy horror story to begin with. I'd have liked to see someone like Terry Gilliam or Harold Raimis writing/directing. I'm not sure about a lead actor but definitely not Tom Cruise.

14. They did a bang up job with Minority Report.

But you never know. Sometimes when you don't expect much from a movie,it surprises you. The opposite is true too,expect too much and you get disappointed.

7. I still love the 1938 radio broadcast.

Something about listening with no images except my imagination makes the story more scary. I doubt any movie could capture that.

11. What happened to original ideas?

Seems that every other movie is a remake of a another. I like scifi so I will probably see it when it comes out on DVD. I agree with the post that said Forbidden Planet would be better.

Mysterious beings, with incredible weapons, come and destroy your way of life. Your warriors manage to kill a few, but the rest destroy everything in thier path...

Another remake that could have possibilities (it's only a matter of time), but would be hard pressed to out do the original.
