4. How about a Peanuts on Parade?
Charles Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts comic strip, lived and worked in our community for almost 45 years. He and his family have made, and continue to make, a profound impact on our community. Their generosity has helped hundreds of our citizens and nonprofit agencies. To honor him and the 55th Anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip, the City (of Santa Rosa, California)is hosting a very special event in the Summer of 2005. Modeled after the successful “Peanuts on Parade” program in St. Paul, Minnesota, Schulz’s hometown, there will be 55 Charlie Brown statues, uniquely painted by local artists, and placed throughout our community.

<snip>

The program will start with a paint-off on May 5-8, 2005, where visitors and residents alike can watch as the artists do their magic on the blank Charlie Brown sculpture. The pieces will be placed around town, in front of businesses, in parks, and in other public venues in early June. In September, we will bring all of the sculptures together in Courthouse Square and hold a community celebration. On September 25, 2005, the actual anniversary of the comic strip, a live auction will be held for the pieces.
