Movies that include songs about themselves
I've been thinking about a particular category of movie--those that include songs with lyrics that refer directly to the movie's characters, plots, or subject matter. I think this is either one of the cheesiest or one of the most brilliant devices in cinema. Here's a short list of what I'm talking about:

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (w/ Tina Turner's "We don't need another hero")
Born in East LA, also Up in Smoke and Things are Tough All Over
Kris Kristoferson movies: Convoy and Cisco Pike
Cat Ballou
Jeremiah Johnson
Colors
Andy Sidaris' early films: Malibu Express and Hard Ticket to Hawaii

Cartoons and other musicals don't count.

I would count Rocky and The Legend of Billie Jean as borderline cases. "Eye of the Tiger" and "Invincible" seem too deeply bound up with the movies to be completely independent songs...

Can you think of more?

(A related topic is songs about the band doing the song--like "Bad Company" or Metallica's "Whiplash" (We'll never stop/we'll never quit/cause we're Metallica!)

6. St. Elmo's Fire
And I'd say "Romancing the Stone," but the song, though specifically written for the movie, was never used in it. Go figure.
