1. Can you elaborate on 'Bob Roberts'? Could |
|

3. Gore Vidal plays a liberal PA Senator |
|
who gets beaten by Robbin's Bob Robers who runs a right wing vacuous campaign. I think that he was based on Santorum at the time.

Robbins' first attempt as a director. It's done in a fake documentary style and tells the story of a a rightwing folksinger (played by robbins) who runs for senator against a 30 year ols style liberal (played by gore vidal)
it goes into detail about how dirty campaigns are run and media complicity in them, particularly from tv
it also stars john cusack as an SNL host who walks off to protest roberts' appearance on the show, alan rickman as roberts' karl rove-type manager and laura palmer's dad from twin peaks (cant remeber his name) as roberts' image consultant
look for an appearance by a very young jack black as an obessesed fan
the dvd is great because it gives you the choice between commentary by tim robbins or gore vidal
you can proabably find it at blockbuster or get a used copy of the dvd or vhs on amazon for cheap.
it should be required viewing for anyone on this site

8. Robbins, if I recall, wrote and performed all the songs |
|
And they're great. "Drugs Stink" is one that comes immediately to mind.
