I'm no journalist or writer by any means...
...and my grammar is terrible, but do people really get paid to make up headlines like this?

"Riders Injured By Metal Shards Suing Cedar Point"

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=387&e=1&u=/kero/20050215/lo_wews/2586552

I wonder why the metal shards are suing?

1. You know they are supposed to "write down" to about 8th grade...
level don't you? Looks like they missed by about 6 grade levels, and not upwards either.

3. I would like this documented
If the riders were injured by the metal shards, why are they suing the cedar points? Cedar is wood, dammit!

7. Headlines have a grammar all their own.
Sort of an antigrammar. Sometimes, they must be having us on.

9. Actually, it is grammatically correct...
because of the "by". That introduces a prepositional phrase, "by metal shards". Therefore, "metal shards" cannot be the subject of the verb suing, but is the object of the preposition. Of course, it would be clearer if there were commas after "riders" and "shards."

Tell me who am your friend your troubles!
