After surveying the wreckage in General Discussion... |
|
I am soooooooooooooo happy I was miles away from DU today. Wow. Man. Ouch.
The sun came up today, folks. Trust me on that; I'm hours ahead of you. Arnold just inherited a Democratic government that is going to fuck his world. Joseph Wilson is still out there, as are nine excellent candidates.
Long live the fighters.

Been up all night talking with good people and having some good beer. Gonna get on a train in an hour for Berlin, a ride I anticipate will be dominated by much sleeping on my part.
Marlins won, right?

Like two heavyweights going at it toe-to-toe. Back and forth, with plenty of clutch hitting from both sides. Great sports drama...

12. I'm Sorry, But Weren't You the One Who Said Give Us a Day to Mourn? |
|
I think you made that plea to the "I told you so" people, back during the midterms.
So please give us Californians a day to mourn, too. Because I'm fucking pissed, and bummed, and disbelieving right now.

I got this feeling that we had our week last week, now it's a "them" week. Cali, the Leak covered up, Turkey bribed, dollar tanks...
I can't wait for our next week!!! We gotta keep the fight going, it's only the tipoff of a major game...

I'm in CA and it is ugly. At least my county went majority for No on the recall.
Hey, your Red Sox beat my Athletics the other night. Hellishly good game, that one. Were you able to keep up online?
All best to you -- :toast:

20. I know you're right but... |

my faith in my fellow human beings to do the right and sane thing has been severely compromised over this Cali election. I tend to be optimistic about people but I'm having a hard time holding on to that this morning.
I managed to live in denial last night. Watched tbe ballgame and told myself not to look until this morning. I cannot believe that people voted for that man. I cannot believe we've turned into such an instant-gratification culture that they recalled someone who they just elected 9 months ago. I cannot believe the people who actually admit they voted for Arnold without knowing a thing about his political positions but rather because he was someone famous and it was "just so exciting". I cannot believe some of the stories I've already read about the problems they had at some polling locations - which doesn't help my faith that this was a clean election or that the 2004 Presidential election hasn't already been stolen.
I feel like the world has gone completely insane.
I know you're right. The world goes on and we have to keep fighting. I just feel really numb right now...but soon, I'm going to be really angry.

is no longer Governor of Minnesota, and many of the people who voted him into office were damned glad to see him go. And Ventura was at least a genuine (if often embarrassing) populist. Schwarzenegger is a tool of Enron and the Bush Administration, and he's going to take his orders directly from Karl Rove.
Arnold is going to crash and burn in the most spectacular fashion. For whatever comfort it's worth -- and I know it's not much for California DU'ers -- you'll get a front row seat and the enormous satisfaction of saying "I told you so" about six months from now.

I agree. I posted earlierabout the positives here: Arnold isn't Asscroft, and Connerly's anti affirmative action was soundly defeated. Not all bad.

25. Sorry Terwilliger, I Can't Buy That |
|
This issue with the leak isn't nearly over. The press has its teeth in it now, and this one is too clear a violation of the law to ignore.
Also, the real impact on the "War on Terror" hasn't nearly been illuminated yet, so look for that to be the next angle. Compromising of the war on terror from within the "With Us Or Against Us" White House. Illegality and hypocrisy in the same story. The press hasn't even gotten started on this yet.
You need to try to be a tad more optimistic. I know it can be hard, but it's better for your health. The Professor

did you see the article that suggested he might use executive privilege?
The press will not START on anything with popular sentiment against the president. Bush will deflect the hard charges, like he has on EVERY other issue.
