Anyone notice this about 24? |

They've tortured two suspects so far, and BOTH were innocent.
I like that.

9. I took it more along the lines of... 'see how useless this is?' |
|
Even the guilty woman... when someone started torturing her to try to get information, two major characters stepped in and told him not to.
But thanks anyway for the kneejerk response! ;)

8. No, they've shown that torture was not effective |
|
in getting the info they needed. The last episode made that pretty clear when Jack (Keifer Sutherland) stopped that agent from torturing the mother.

6 nuclear reactors blowing up would allow for some torture to take place. I mean if you've got a person and you have reasonable suspicions that they might have some info, I say the suspect should expect some pressure.
if I was the suspect, I would go out of my way to make sure my interrogators knew everything. instead of what the son did "that's none of your business".

Last season (or the one before? not sure...) anyway they portrayed an incident before in which psychological torture was used to break a suspect (they faked a near assassination of his wife/ child in order to get him to talk).
I suspect the son was just being rebellious. He paid dearly for it, too.

And your statement about Fairuz's mom being tortured... I wondered if you saw that the guy pressed his thumb into her wound for less than a minute, and then it was put to a stop.

What got me was how the secretary of state's son was screaming "you can't do this! I'm an American!" when they were torturing him. Then he later tells his dad (the secretary of state) about this outrage, and his dad orders him tortured again because obviously he's hiding something.
Yep, it's a wonderful bushie world, even on TV.

41. The Sec of Defense torturing his son was directly compared to |
|
the terrorist father ordering the murder of his own son. The two decisions were made simultaenously, and the story lines developed alongside each other, intercut one to another. Both parents justified their decisions as necessary for their cause, and the Sec of Defense's decision proved fruitless.
Of course, there is still time to find out something different was going on with the son, but the bottom line was that the show compared the torture of an American citizen with a terrorist murdering his own child. It was not a flattering comparison for the justification of torture.
