Poll question: Best Manager in baseball |
|
Felipe Alou and Bruce Bochy have made more with less over the years. My vote goes to "Boch".

4. He's had more talent to work with and only 1 championship. |

Put him im Texas or San Diego and see how he does. With the players, mainly the pitchers, he has had, the Braves shuld have won 6 or 7 World Series. Not my guy.

|
He's a good fundamentals coach but he has trouble winning the big games

6. Alou is good but Bobby Cox is clearly the best |
|
NOt that he has done more with less (until recently) but the consistency is amazing and the whole roster has turned over several times. It is now Chipper's team (with Andrew in there too but I think Chipper runs the show) so they have their anchor. What he did at the beginning of the run was just purely amazing.

13. Damn staight! Jack Mack is awesome |
|
I believe one of the worst mistakes the Reds ever made was getting rid of good ol' Jack McKeon.

7. Went with Gardenhire for the same reasons you went with Boch |
|
He has brought the Twins to the playoffs ever since he started managing the Twins!

8. I can't believe you didn't include Jack McKeon |
|
The guy took an inexperienced team with a losing record and a dwindling fan base and made them world champions in less than one season. They even beat the Yankees twice in Yankee Stadium during the WS that year.

10. That was one good, lucky season. I like "Trader Jack", but the best? |
|
Right now its Alou, Bochy and Gardenshire IMO.

He did more in that one "lucky" season than most of your candidates have done in a lifetime.

I'm not sure who is the best but I know who is the most overrated. Tony is hands down the worst. He had the better team 3 times. This year and twice with Oakland. He also treated Ozzie with didain. I was a Cardinal fan growing up and was in the clubhouse on Stan Musial night at the Polo grounds. I have a personal ball signed to me from Stan the amn, Kenny Boyer and bob gibson. Pretty cool for a 12 year old. The Braves have had the better team only a few times and Bobby is a very good manager.

17. Dusty, with reservations. |
|
Usually, no one gets more out of his players than Dusty Baker. But last season, with all the conflict and the personality issues in the clubhouse, he just couldn't put it all together to get to the postseason. Lost in all that is the fact that we actually IMPROVED on our '03 record, but a manager is judged by whether his team makes it to the playoffs, and it didn't happen. Hopefully this year, there will be much less drama and histrionics and we can put it all together for a season to remember!

18. Bobby Cox is a choke artist and very overrated |

Jesus Christ you should win the division penenant, National league penenant and at least five world series if you have the lineup and payroll that he has.
