I used to use regular clay litter, but I'm too lazy for all that heavy lifting. I use Scoop Away now and although it helps with my aversion to lifting (after dog grooming for a living for 6 years, I left with the complimentary prize of groomer's back, the gift that keeps on giving). I have to be honest about the clumping litters though. In my experience, they are still dusty and many of them stink even before the cat uses them and you still have to completely change the box ever so often. I wish they'd really get serious about toilet training kits for the laziest of cat owners. I want to be able to sleep 16 hours a day right along side my cats. I don't want to lick my ass to take a bath though. Although being able to reach would have its benefits...

3. I use plain clay litter, but my cats are indoor/outdoor... |

...and they prefer using the flower beds. I have five of my own and regularly have two neighborhood "sleep overs" and rarely need to change my two litter boxes more frequently than biweekly. If my cats were strictly indoor kitties I'd probably use a clumping litter-- I used to have ferrets too and they didn't like the clumping litter, and after the last weasel passed away I never started using the stuff again, but as I said, I don't really need it.

We have four cats and use a Litter Maid auto cleaning box for one of the four boxes in our home. We buy large bags when they're on sale and keep it in plastic buckets for easy handling. We still scoop three of the boxes manually, but we love the Litter Maid!
