I am tired of buying different brands and not liking them, even trader joe's (I am super picky about food) I know I could make my own, but tomatoes suck this time of year or are 4 bucks a lb.

1. Sorry. If it doesn't make me cry, it ain't nothin' to me.
I like the Trader Joe's Salsa Especial. Very hot stuff. Nothing mild can hold my interest.

13. I like chiles, but hate it when they chop so damned much white onion in
that that is all you taste. That to me is what makes the "hot" varieties often unpleasant--not the heat per se'.

I've noted this is now the trend in making pico de gallo now, too, unfortunately. While this is simply made at home, it does take time, so I like to pick it up from time to time.

2. You can still make your own
do what restaurants do, use some canned tomatoes, along with the fresh. While working at a very good Mexican restaurant, the owner was making salsa. He added all the regular ingredients, and then chopped up canned tomatoes to the mix. Not only does the canned tomatoes give a varied texture to the salsa, it adds juice and when the fresh tomatoes suck, adds flavor.

5. what, do you eat salsa on everything?
right now I'm eating garlic bread, pretty darn flavorful, and not a bit spicy. still craving salsa though, maybe that's why I can't sleep.

4. Try the Frontera Grill line
Rick Bayless's restaurant makes them.

They have all kinds of salsas and I haven't been disappointed yet with the quality, baring making it yourself. I love the hot stuff, but he does make mild ones, like the salsa verde.

There is also a good one in the refrigerator section of the grocery store, that comes in a clear plastic tub. Sorry, I can't remember the name of it. It's good too. They have mild, medium, and hot.

6. mm, sounds good, I wonder if we have it here,
hell, I'm up for ordering it. wonder how fast they can deliver.

It seems that all the refrigerated salsa's I've tried have way more onion than tomato (I am so darn picky, I know, I suck. I don't even like most canned food, I swear I can taste the can. I get worse the older I get, pretty soon I'll be surviving just on oatmeal and orange juice)

making your oatmeal with orange juice. :P

10. lol! hey, I've eaten weirder food combinations, go figure. maybe that's
why I'm having trouble sleeping.

I think I'll try to catch a couple hours now, or more since it's Saturday. and look forward to a grocery trip later:)

8. Rojos is a good local brand in So Cal... mild, medium and hot..
No one's tomatoes are any good. It's not really salsa season unless you spring for the hothouse organics...

9. Pace picante sauces are wonderful!
Especially their Chipotle sauce and their Lime and Garlic sauce.

Here is their site, I don't know if Pace sauces are sold in the stores where you live.

11. Make your own; it's pretty simple. That way you can control the heat.

Since you like it mild (I'm a Zonie, I like it steamy!)

1 can (or less) mild ROASTED green chhilies--I don't know if these are easily available or not, but roasted are definitely the most flavorful. Ortega is good, if there are local brands where you are, these are preferable.

1 can stewed tomatoes
(edit) You need to squish them up by hand

Diced onion and garlic to taste

Salt to taste

Cilantro to garnish and for flavor (this helps cut the sting, too)

Let it sit in the frig overnight.

You'll be very surprised at how good it is.

12. Sante Fe Restaurant, "Coyote Cafe" produces some really good ones
they may be hard to find as they only distribute to limited gourmet type shops, but you can order directly from them www.coyotecafe.com

14. I like Mrs Renfro Rasberry Chipolte Salsa
Mild but very flavorful. It's really good with cream cheese on a cracker.

I'm in Kansas and they carry it at some of the stores. I haven't tried any other flavors. Here's a link to their website.

I'm a mild but flavorful person too :)

15. I make my own
I put all of the following in a food processor:

Fresh tomatoes
Onion
Jalapeno (remove seeds and only use a little if you want it mild)
Cilantro
Lime juice
Cumin

Then just process it until your desired consistency. Maybe you could try the above with canned tomatoes, but I never have.

18. above works great with canned stewed tomatoes! also i use
serranos instead of jalapenos and yes I use lots of garlic

In a pinch, I use the sliced jalapenos that are used on nachos, etc.

Just put it in the processor or blender and pulse to desired consistency
