Let's play stump the STYX nut
And no dirty talk PLEASE...

Ask me anything about the seventies rock group STYX and I will answer your questions.

It's, unfortunately, the only musical group I know anything about. (Yeah I'm a dork!)

1. No question; just a comment.
Mr. Roboto was the dumbest "rock" song ever. It really sucked.

I remember the video for "I Like" or somthing like that- it was sooner than 7 years after "Kilroy"... What LP was that off of?

22. Edge of the Century
was their first studio album after breaking up in 1983.

The "I Like" song you're probably thinking of was "Music Time" which appeared on the live album "Caught in the Act" released in 1984.

15. You've read about me in the papers.....
You've seen me on the movie screen
You know everything about me
I'm your late night fantasy
But don't think I can't hear you calling
From the shadow of the 14th row
Cause I've had the same dreams you've had
A few short years ago and that's why I know
You and I
We will climb so high
Superstars
Whoa whoa You and I
And we'll just close our eyes
And become our fantasy
Superstars yes, yes, superstars
Step right this way. Everyone's welcome,
We want your dreams.
The offer's simple, momentary immortality
Cause I've seen them all you know
I've seen them climb and I've seen them fall
I've seen them come and I've seen them go
And through it all there's only one thing that matters
Love - And that's simply
You and I
Yes, You and I
For we are superstars

27. Hey! I love Styx too!
Styx was my favorite band growing up and it remains in my top 10. I challenge people to not listen to their earlier stuff and realize the working man genius and wisdom contained within. They had certainly got into a rut by the time Paradise Theater was done, but that album was IMHO the pinnacle of their career. Sure, Kilroy Was Here sucked but the concept was actually a fairly interesting one and more than a couple of the songs of that album are more than listenable.

46. We cant be too hard on "Kilroy"- at least it made fun of Jerry Fawell, etc
It's no worse than any of their other records-all are equally over-blown musically & concept wise. Kilroy was here spawned at least 2 top ten hits for them as well...

Styx may be the worst band of all time- but at least they stood up to the Right-wing Moral Majority & record censorship...

Illustrating the art of the back handed compliment. :-)

Yeah, and they pretty much risked a whole album based on the concept of the moral majority taking over the government. Doesn't seem quite so far-fetched as it did in 1983.

Although it did suck pretty hard.

54. The concept was fairly common
Government bans rock & roll
Plucky rebel keeps it alive

Zappa's Joe's Garage is my favorite fleshing-out of the concept, although the government in Zappa's piece banned all music, not just rock--envisioning the Taliban long before they came to fruition.
