ok, so I'm going to Italy tomorrow |
|
for ten days. I'll be in Venice and then Rome. Is there anyone out there that can possibly be a guide/friend?

Stay away from people begging for money. Often they'll try to distract you while others pick your pocket. I know it sounds obvious, but a two guys I knew almost got mugged in Rome just like this. The same goes for some street vendors. Watch your ass, and wear a money belt and everything should work out just fine. Oh, and don't forget to have fun! :D

6. Yeah, love Rome, but Naples cost me . . . |
|
my wallet and all my credit cards. Money belt is a good idea. Be very careful with your passport.

Definitely wear one of those satchel-like things around your neck to keep important stuff safe (ie, money, passport, traveler's checks, credit cards, etc.). Check it regularly.
In Rome especially, be prepared for a lot of walking (comfortable shoes). Try the gelato (Italian ice cream--the absolute best in the world, IMO). And don't get lost--the city becomes a maze of tiny alleyways that all look the same.
Venice is beautiful, but beware of the pigeons, which crap everywhere. Venetian glasswork is gorgeous.
If you want to visit religious sites, like cathedrals, at any point, wear nice clothes (covered legs and arms), or they won't let you in.
All in all, enjoy yourself and get plenty of sleep on the plane...when I went, I had half an hour of sleep in 48 hours and was jet lagged for most of the trip, and I feel like I missed out on a lot.
Italy is amazing. Have fun!! :)
