I'm going away on a pre-planned vacation; I'm not being disappeared

Honest. Really.

When I wrote my "confessions" last night, I didn't expect the response that came. I'm supposed to be on vacation from work now, and I wrote while I was sitting here figuring out where to go. And since it's my tradition (and my intense need) to unplug from mass media while I'm on vacation, I won't be checking back here for about a week unless something truly earthshaking happens.

Normally, I wouldn't feel the need to say any of this, and you probably don't care one whit that I'm going on vacation. But given the tone of what I said earlier, and given the strong response it's inspired (thanks to all!), I don't want anyone getting upset when I stop replying -- and I don't want anyone thinking there's a more sinister reason why I've suddenly gone silent.

Really. Honest. There's nobody holding a gun to my head. It is, however, a shame that posts like this need to be made these days.

I read your message and feel badly that the whoredom of so much of the press can indiscriminately attach to those few remaining with true journalistic integrity. Recharge your batteries. We need you.

Before you go, do you think it would be worthwhile for us to start blasting the media asking them to report both sides fairly?

It was forums like DU that organized media and congressional blasting efforts to demand that a senator take a stand on the certification of the electoral college votes. Because we loaded congress up with emails, snail mail, faxes and telephone calls demanding that some one stand with Conyers, et al, Boxer chose to sign the petition and other dems stood up to debate the election irregularities. We made so many telephone calls that we tied up their switchboards and the "800" previously provided by lobbyists to access congress was shut down and now calls have to be made by calling their "212" number.

Would that help us if we tried to organize a call to the media to balance their reporting and to properly investigate stories like the gannon matter?
