Dr,. Hunter Thompson R.I.P. |
|
Hunter was one of my idols; along w/ Bukowski, he made me want to become a writer.
It's funny, but as some of you know I'm playing a full cast version of Hunter's "Fear And Loathing..." tonight on my internet station; now he's gone. i guess this was the right time to play it.
I've scrapped my overnight show and decided to play "Fear And Loathing" in it's place all night. And get roaring drunk. And Howl at the moon. It starts in about 50 minutes; if anybody wants to listen in, check my sig for my station page.
Godammit Hunter, you and Bukowski are both gone now. Rest in peace my friend, an know that you touched more people then you could have ever known.

I used to own this on CD, but I let a now ex-girlfriend borrow it and I haven't seen it since. I'm getting drunk on bourbon and Coca-Cola, and this is good listening for tonight. Dammit. Hunter was one of those people you thought would live forever. First time the death of someone I didn't know personally has made me cry since William S. Burroughs died.

I didn't think I would be so stunned by his leaving. I always figured he'd go quick after a short illness. Nothing like this. And he was only 67. Evil old bastards like Hunter are supposed to give Methuselah a run for his money.
But I don't hold it against him. His choice. I won't second-guess it. He never did anything halfway, and I'm sure his death was no exception. Here's to one of the most balls-up guys in all history.

I still can't believe he's gone, and I really can't believe I picked this night to play it; I plan my Spoken Word Sunday stuff about a month in advance; what are the odds this would happen?
