It's practically a religion in Canada.

10. Well, down where I live it's probably because we get snow |
|
about once every hundred years. Don't get much ice either or freezing temps past 6 am.

11. We don't get much snow in Vancouver either |

The flowers are already blooming. Maybe it's in the water.

12. How far do you have to go to get snow? |
|
In south texas, you can drive for two days in winter before reaching temps like that. I think sports fans base their preferences to some degree on availability/identification of the sport. And many places here don't have hockey tems to watch, much less play.

14. I live at the foot of the mountains, so not far, just up. |
|
I understand why it might not be popular in Texas, but there's plenty of areas in the States that are cold.

15. Maybe they participate in other activities with the cold. |
|
They tend to switch from football into basketball for the coldest part of winter in high schools. That's my take on it. And it may not have much to do with "cold" per se, but availability and space of open ice to skate on.
