Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
After Jesus died on the cross what happened to Mary and Joseph? Any DU'ers here could answer that question?

2. After Jesus died on the cross, what happened to Jesus
That's what I am wondering...

I mean he came back to life, right?
Metaphorically? In heaven?
Literally, on earth?
Then what?
Does the Bible discuss this?

I am genuinely curious...

8. Here you go
His bady was laid to rest in a cave the entrance was blocked off. He later appeared to his followers and was lifted up to heaven. When they looked in the cave his body was gone.

20. So
He appeared to his followers, and then they went to check his tomb (cave). After that, no more appearances by Jesus?
I was under the impression that he appeared to Mary Mag(however the hell you spell it)delin, and she told the apostles. But I was not clear on what happened afterward.
Thanks for responding, BTW

16. Jesus was resurrected in his earthly body, spent some time with

his disciples, then ascended into heaven "where he sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty."

17. The Bible doesn't say
The last reference to Joseph is when he retrieved Jesus from the Temple, when he was about 13. No further mention of him is made.

Mary and Joseph retired, and joined them later with their pension benefits to sun on the Riviera.

At the young age of 33, Jesus quits the family business and retires to France with his wife?

15. Seriously -- let's see --
I don't have my Bible beside me, but from memory,

Joseph was not mentioned -- perhaps deceased by that time.

Mary became a member of the Jerusalem Christian community led by Peter and James, the Brother of Jesus. (Of course, one of the gospels says that Jesus had no siblings since Mary remained a lifelong immaculate virgin, but that is merely one of the many mysteries of true faith.)

Jesus rose on the third day, visited with His followers for 40 days, and then went to Hell, where he "harrowed" it (i.e. razed Hell) before rising to join His Father In Heaven.

Hey -- I was raised by an atheist and a deist. What is wrong with you people.

Anyway?

25. The word "brother" can mean "cousin" in the context of Jesus's

culture. If there were other biological children of Mary's, why did Jesus, dying on the cross, tell his disciple John "Behold your mother" and tell Mary "Behold your son"? Jesus was saying that John should take care of Mary as if she were his own mother. This wouldn't have been necessary if there siblings of Jesus's who could care for Mary in her old age.

Since Joseph disappears from view in the Gospels (as I recall he isn't mentioned after Jesus is about 12, when Jesus is found by his worried parents in the temple, teaching rabbis), it's believed that he died sometime between then and the beginning of Jesus's ministry about twenty years later.
He was supposed to be a good bit older than Mary.

30. None of the Gospels say that
Mary remained a life-long virgin. That's a later Roman Catholic doctrine influenced by Stoic philosophy, which saw the body as evil.

18. There is much in the Apocrypha regarding Mary
Some of it very fascinating. Though they are called "Apocrypha" they are still considered revelatory texts by the Catholic church. The political and theological debates that led to the current selection is in itself fascinating. Which is interesting due to the fact that much of the Apocrypha contradicts teachings such as the life-long virginity of Mary and the Assumption.

You should ask posters to site the Biblical chapters or early Church records that they have sourced to give you their opinions. When discussing the "Bible" it is important to remember there are various translations and the Catholic and Protestant "Bibles" do not include all of the same books.

Many people when discussing Biblical events are going on memory and perpetuating mistakes. If you are really interested and pursue your question you will learn much that may be edifying, puzzling and wonderful.

I have not indicated my own understandings of Mary's life because there would be too many variables and contradictory sources and I would be up all night finding links. Good Luck

29. He's correct that most of us don't remember our Bible as well as

we might and there are very real differences between Bible translations, particularly between the Catholic and Protestant Bibles. Knowing that you're Catholic, I'll PM you some good links for researching the Bible from a Catholic perspective. It may be a while since I am listening to the debate, too, cutting down on my multitasking ability.

34. Here are some links for use (hopefully).
A link to a searchable base of KJV and the Apocrypha

http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/kjv.browse.html

Here is a very easy to use link to commentary of the "Old" and "New" Testaments and Apocrypha.
http://www.bibletexts.com/bt.htm
Here is a link to a quick bit about Mary in the Koran and New Testament regarding Mary:
http://www.wcr.ab.ca/news/2001/0305/apocryphaandbible030501.shtml

Here is a link to a review and sale of a book: "The Apocryphal Gospels of Mary in Anglo- Saxon England"
http://books.cambridge.org/0521581680.htm

I hope this helps. Perhaps you could use the link to check info given by others. I have a migraine and have taken 3 Percocets so am sort of foggy and do not trust my memory right now.

23. Jesus - the Missing Years - John Prine
It was raining it was cold
West Bethlehem was no place for a twelve year old
So he packed his bags and he headed out
To find out what the world's about
He went to France he went to Spain
He found love he found pain
He found stores so he started to shop
But he had no money so he got in trouble with a cop
Kids in trouble wiht the cops from Israel didn't have no home
So he cut his hair and moved to Rome
It was there he met his Irish bride
And they rented a flat on the lower east side
Of Rome
Italy that is
Music publishers, book binders, bible belters,
Swimming pools, orgies and lots of pretty Italian chicks

Charley bought some popcorn
Billy bought a car
Someone almost bought the farm
But they didn't go that far
Things shut down at midnight
At least around here they do
Cause we all reside down the block inside
At 23 skidoo

Wine was flowing so were beers
So Jesus found his missing years
He went to a dance and said This don't move me
So he hiked up his pants and he went to a movie
On his thirteenth birthday he saw Rebel Without a Cause
He went straight on home and invented Santa Claus
Who gave him a gift
And he responded in kind
He gave the gift of love and went out of his mind

You see him and the wife wasn't getting along
So he took out his guitar and he wrote a song
Called The Dove of Love Fell off the Perch
But he couldn't get divorced in the Catholic Church
At least not back then anyhow
Jesus was a good guy he didn't need this shit
So he took a pill with a Coca-Cola and he swallowed it
He discovered the Beatles
He recorded with the Stones
Once he even opened up a three way package
For old George Jones

The years passed by like sweet little days
With babies crying pork chops and Beaujolais
When he woke up he was seventeen
The world was angry the world was mean
Why the man down the street and the kid on the stoop
All agreed that life stank all the world smelled like poop
Baby poop that is the worst kind

So he grew his hair long and threw away his comb
And headed back to Jerusalem to find mom, dad and home
But when he got there the cupboard was bare
Except for an old black man with a fishing rod
He said, Whatcha gonna be when you grow up?
Jesus said God
Oh my God what have I gotten myself into?
I'm a human corkscrew and all my wine is blood
They're gonna kill me Mama they don't like me Bud

So Jesus went to heaven and he went there awful quick
All them people killed him and He wasn't even sick
So come and gather around me my contemporary peers
And I'll tell you all the story
Of Jesus ... the missing years

24. If you ever visit Turkey
you can go to a site (I think next to Ephesus) where supposedly Mary lived out her life. They have fountains that give blessings from her. Supposedly Peter fled with Mary and they lived their lives there.

I have no other basis for this info except I visited this site.

28. Don;t know about Joseph
But doesn't the Catholic Church teach that Mary remnained a Virgin (Oh, demon SEX again), and when she died she was assumed bodily to Heaven?

Hence thew cult of Marianism (Ireland, Mexico, most Latin & Mediterranean cultures) wher Mary has the status of a virtual Godess.
Prayed to and prayed for.
