Its pretty simple - no dice, very small amount of armies. The stragegies can get complex, but the game rules themselves are pretty easy to learn.

played it one night with some friends, had a headache for three days
Risk is easier
There was a professor at Baylor back in the 60's who used it as a teaching tool in PoliSci classes...his daughter was the one who had us all over to play it back when we all lived in Cambridge..she said the game would last the whole semester, with all sorts of spying, counterspying, betrayal, backstabbing, etc among the teams within the classes.
and we wonder why Survivor is so popular?
