I finally got a little cat :-) *pic*
i've been looking for the last 2 and half months -- going to shelters, etc, once or twice a week...

well i walk into the humane society today and find this little fella, exactly what i've been looking for... i was told he'd just gotten there a few minutes before i walked in.

he's a russian blue, not sure if he's pure or not, but certainly looks that way to me -- and he was labeled as such... he has all the physical characteristics of one, including the rings around the tail.

he's six months old and hyper as he can be... i live in a loft, and he loves the huge wooden post i have in the center of my place, he's already climbing it...

he hates other cats, but seems to really dig me :-)

i haven't picked out a name yet, but just wanted to share the pic :D

11. Awww...
How sweet. My hubby and I just got a cat yesterday from the North Shore Animal League on Long Island. It's a black short haired domestic cat. She's a darling, and her name is Mystic. (That was her name at the shelter, and we decided to keep it because we loved it for her!)

It was so sad. The people there said the black cats were the most difficult to place. :( But, she's a beauty, and we're so happy to have her home with us!

Congratulations on your new family member! They'll take over our lives before we know it!

13. has he been micro-chipped?
That blue tag is just like the one my cat wears -- to indicate that he has been micro-chipped.

This is a good idea for cats -- even indoor cats because cats, being cats, might get outside and lost.

Cute guy --

Except when they get a bladder infection and decide to let you know by pissing in the sink.

Blood and Urine when your about to brush your teeth is just yucky

Actually it was pretty smart of my cat to do that or I wouldn't have known. When she got better she stopped.

i'm still deciding on names, i've narrowed it down to ryder and nikko

leaning towards the latter. :-D

so rings around the tail indicate he's NOT a russian blue? i thought russian blues had the rings around the tail?

33. Pretty sure that they should be pure grey (blue)... found this info:
RUSSIAN BLUE (16a)
Colour - Clear blue and even throughout with a distinct silvery sheen. Medium blue is preferred. The coat must be blue to the roots, which may be fractionally lighter in tone, and the hairs must show no banding or silver tipping although there may be absence of pigment at the tip. In maturity the coat should be free from tabby markings or shading, although ghost markings may show in kittens.

from here: http://www.soton.ac.uk/~kpa/rbba/intro.html

and this site as well: http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/standards/russian.html

... has no mention of the tail having a band. I haven't seen any pure ones with a banded tail, but I could be wrong. It doesn't really matter, IMO it's better not to be a pure breed... much healthier. And he's beautiful!!

hmm, i seem to remember having read about the rings somewhere else, but i could be mistaken...

they're certainly more pronounced in that pic than in person. but who knows... he certainly has the FACE of a russian blue, and his coat is gorgeous, so that's good enough for me :D

31. My condolences on having obtained a new Master
So you've just signed yourself into servant-hood. Lucky you.

We were watching some UFO show last night, and joking about aliens taking over earth. We decided aliens already were already ruling us, disguised as Cats.

Our Mistress looked at us, pretending not to understand that we had finally figured it all out. As long as there was Fancy Feast in her bowl that evening, the Servants could be ignored...for now.

35. He's beautiful!
I have a long-haired domestic gray that is an awesome cat too. He's almost 14, and his momma, who I also have, is 15.

Just one word of caution: If you are planning for him to be an indoor only cat, please consider taking the collar off his neck. He doesn't need it, and if you got him at the shelter, most shelters microchip their animals. My momma cat got hers tightened accidentally and within a very short time, it had grown into her neck, and had to be surgically removed. I don't put collars on my cats at all anymore, only the dog, because his gets turned and loosened regularly by going outside on a leash.

Congrats on your new baby!

Peace,
Bella

45. o man! you got the blue russian.
these cats are insane. my friend got one from a shelter and that cat is NUTS. But in a good way. He will hide behind things and when you're walking by, he will jump out and attack your leg. He did this to a person on the sidewalk in front of his house once. The girl screamed bloody hell. He also imagines there's things and will pounce at the AIR. And then there's always the deliberate trip up if he's hungry and you walk towards the kitchen. I love that cat. I have a black and white cat and he NEVER does anything crazy, he's so predictable.

Congratulations, Enjoy!
