lines from "What did you learn today?" by Tom Paxton. |
|
"What did you learn school today What did you learn in school dear little boy of mine: 'I learned the government must be strong, it's always right and never wrong. We only elect the finest men and we elect them again and again."
The education of Johnny Neocon.

1. Paxton is always aware of whats going on in the world. |
|
I saw him once when the Lorina Bobbit story was in the news.
He did a whole song about it. The only line I remember is......."then his little wifey took a little knify..."
The next concert I saw was Cheryl Wheeler, she said John Bobbit had his named changed to "les Johnson".
"can't help but wonder where I'm bound" is still my favorite Paxton song.

2. My favorite Tom Paxton song is "The Marvelous Toy" |
|
It starts with
"When I was just a wee little lad full of health and joy, My father homeward came one night and gave to me a toy.
A wonder to behold it was with many colors bright, And the moment i laid eyes on it it became my heart's delight.
It went Zip when it moved Bop when it stopped BRRR when it stood still I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will.
Then there are a couple more verses. I think I got the verses i wrote down right :hi:

topical songs?
Last I heard, he was concentrating on children's songs, without overt political content.
He's an amazing satirist. He has more good stuff out than I can keep up with, but I have one record from the Reagan era, including a song about the Chrysler bailout, a patriotic-sounding march:
"I'm changing my name to Chrysler I'm going down to Washington DC I'll tell some power broker that what's good for Iacocca would be perfectly acceptable to me
I'm changing my name to Chrysler I'm leaving for that great receiving line When they pass a million grand out I'll be standing with my hand out And I'll get mine!"

5. He might be still writing . |
|
He was on Garrison Keillor a couple of years ago with a song about Dubya's administration allowing arsenic in the water.
"Arsenic, Arsenic, Arsenic, Everyone get your Arsenic..."
