OK, DU Fashion Savvy DUers I need help...
Which of these ties should I wear when reporting my big story tomorrow?

This is the shirt:

And this is the dark blue suit. (Ignore the red bit, that's just lens flare.)

2. Those middle three ties belonged to my late grandfather.
They have some sentimental value.

26. No, the one with the little
red stripes. So which one did you choose? Inquiring minds need to know. (And I'm delaying doing my taxes, the big thing on the list for today)

21. Yep, I'd go with the fourth too.
The first would look great with a lighter shirt, the red will just be too busy and distracting with the dark blue shirt you've picked. The light blue needs a light shirt. No picture ties unless you want people trying to figure out whats on your tie instead of listening to what you're saying.

10. So the red one could work?
But then again It's for TV. In TV, lots of red = color bleeding = bad.

14. I wear red on TV . It would work. Lots of the Pols wear red as well.
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 02:18 AM by saracat
I wouldn't worry about it Of course some of this might depend on your coloring. If you are fair, I would wear the blue stripe .If you are brown or brunette the red.

12. I'd suggest the red one...
...because the shirt and suit are both dark, and you need some contrasting color. But if you say red is bad for TV, your second-best bet is the first one with the wide golden stripes, IMO. Again, for contrast reasons.

Keep in mind, though, that my fashion sense tends to run toward "bold and dramatic" rather than "businesslike and subdued," so take it for what it's worth....

19. Red is OK in small amounts.
Just don't wear too much, or things will bleed, especailly with older equipment.

However, I do have our newest camera, just delivered a few weeka ago at my disposal.

22. I would say the first or the fourth
They both have some contrast and will pop. I think the red one is too much.

23. Suit and shirt very nice, but the ties? Oh my giddy aunt!
I'd say no tie at all, given the choices. (And I wear ties with just about everything, all the time.) Just the suit and the shirt with the neck unbuttoned. Dressy casual. You have good taste, know how to dress up, but you also are hip enough to feel comfortable and casual while doing it.

However, if a tie is de rigeur, you are in big trouble. Apparently you do not actually have good taste nor are you hip. Possibly colour blind, though. I hope you didn't buy those yourself? Surely they were gifts? An ugly tie can be a beautiful thing if you're aiming for irony.

But the best of the bad choices. First on the left or 4th from the left. They say: He's got taste but he's wearing it because his wife/girlfriend /mistress bought for him. And they'll look presentable and respectable, conservative. Do not choose the red one under any circumstances. Nobody will be paying attention to anything else. The light blue solid might look good with some outfits, but not this one. Same problem as the red. And the far right one? That's what you wear if you want people to come up and talk to you about it and make funny and admiring comments. It's not a tie, it's a conversation piece. And you wear it with a white shirt and dark suit because the tie is the focus of the outfit. It's what you want noticed.

I'm gay. I know that of which I speak.

Khash.

When I worked as a waitress the bartender who is gay, would do my makeup and hair, he was grrrreat! at it. He like to practice on me, and I loved to oblige.

25. You've obviously given this some thought and have taken
the time to make this post so I presume you are concerned with how you look.

That said - do not wear any of those ties. Get dressed and go to a mens store before you have to be where you have to be. If you can not pick out a tie yourself, ask the salesperson to suggest something.

If this is not possible then I agree with an earlier poster and do not wear a tie at all. If this is also not possible then as a last resort wear the one on the left. Good luck.
