Can I transfer stuff from my DVR to DVD? If so, how? |
|
I have a Motorola "Moxi" DVR from my cable company (Charter Communications). I'm wondering if there's a way to transfer programs I've recorded onto DVD. I don't have a DVD burner yet, but if I can do this, I'll buy one.
There are two USB ports on the front of the DVR unit.
What I don't know: 1) If I can do this. 2) What is the format of DVR programs? Are they compatible with DVD players? Does this matter? 3) What equipment I would need? Do I need to run it through a port on my computer if this would work?
I have two DVRS, one in the study (near my computer), one in the basement (not near my computer, but I have a wireless network and card for my laptop). Given this, I'm assuming that I should get an external DVD burner that could be moved from place to place, but that may not be necessary.
Of course, none of this is necessary if I can't do this to begin with.
Thanks for any help someone might be able to give me.

I don't use DVR, but I do have many video-in digitzers that support analogue and digital sources.
I capture, restore and enhance, then burn onto DVD-R.
All my tools are PC-based. It may not be one-touch like that Apple imac toy, but I compared one of my disc's to a friend's and he had a Mac. Mine was better. One-click rubbish 'solutions' robs people of the freedom to manually customize and improve things.
www.vcdhelp.com and www.videohelp.com can help you even better; they've the most resources that'd be silly for me to manually type here.
Depending on what cleanup or enahcenements I wish to make, I use the following:
Pinnacle DV500+ for capturing and it came with Adobe premiere ($600)
Virtualdub (free, as are the plug-ins that can be found on the net)
tmpegenc pro ($150?)
ulead video studio 8 and movie maker 3.5 (for burning)

. . . I need a little bit more detailed informtion. I'm not exactly a pre-schooler when it comes to computer stuff, but I'm not a college whiz-kid, either.
I tried to go one of those websites, but it also assumed that I knew what I was looking for.
I guess what I was hoping for was that someone had done this before and could give me some step-by-step information that I could follow with a bit more success.
