AHA! My new dead computer is working! |
|
I had gone through the rigamarole with tech support and got an RA number to ship the damn thing back. Then I put the cover back on preparatory to packing it up.
Then I petted it and said, "You coulda been a good little computer." (Yes, I really do things like that.) And suddenly, there was a little blue indicator light on the start button. I pushed it and SHAZAM! It works!
But now I'm not so pleased with my 19" LCD. Text is fuzzy. The new iMac at work has an LCD that just blows this one away.

2. Yes, I'll probably do that. *Sigh* |

I hate it when wise people tell me things I know to do but don't want to. :D

4. LCD monitors, a primer: |
|
The LCD monitor is usually configured to deliver optimal appearance for one resolution only.
For all other resolutions, the LCD monitor cannot display it optimally - the end result is that the text looks fuzzy.
Find the monitor's manual and see which setting it's optimized for. (For a 19" monitor, I'd guess that its optimal size would be 1200x1024... maybe 1600x1200, but I doubt it.)
The Mac was configured to automatically be set to that one resolution and you're stuck with it.
There are several other reasons why I do not like LCD monitors (dead or stuck pixels are a real joy...), but the industry is dead set on thrusting it down our throats so what can ya do?
If you have WIndowsXP, consider changing the ClearType setting and see if that improves things.

Make sure you find out what graphics card you have installed. Visit the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for it. Then increase your resolution in display properties. Make sure 32 bit color is on, and turn on the "cleartype" font smoothing under the "effects" tab in display properties. See if that helps ;)
