Give me one reason I should be happy. |
|
My parents are breaking up, I missed qualifying in my main Speech & Debate event at a tournament today on the word of one judge who didn't like the fact I was a liberal, while my best freind qualified in the same event (He'd never done or practiced it before in his life) and was in fact awarded 1st Place, I have a literal metric ton of homework to do tomorrow, most of which I don't know how to do, and my grades are slipping and sliding down the tubes. Seriously. I need something to cheer me up.

1. You are young, healthy, intelligent |
|
And have no debts, no debillitating illness, and you're not an asshole like that judge.

And if you don't want to go there, now would be a good time to declare yourself a concientious objector !

you are going to meet the most incredible person who will turn your life upside down and make you happier than you ever thought possible. But you must be patient. And in the mean time, endure this stuff. It will make you stronger.

:bounce:
Sorry you're so down.
You just need to start focusing and be able to budget your time and responsibilitites more wisely.
About your parents, mine are stil together so I can't really say I know a lot about this, but if they're not happy together, they shouldn't stay together just to make you happy. If may be for the best.
Good luck.:)

You are here at DU and are very different from the mindless sheeple all around us.
You live, breath, and experience the world.
Sadness comes in waves, but if you look around it's not hard to find plenty of things to be happy about.
Cheer up, mate...don't take life too seriously.

8. Welcome to the fight, kid, |

Get mad, then stuff it away, and study. When the time is right, and you've positioned yourself well, pull it out and blow those ratbastards back to the hell their god lives in. Good Luck!

9. You're not watching your child die of cancer or living in a warzone, etc. |

I'm not saying you don't have the right to be bummed out. Just because circumstances aren't extreme doesn't mean they can't suck. I'm just saying to put things in perspective. The world is a really big place and you've got a lot of your life ahead of you.
The things that Hardhead lists in post #1 may not seem like a big deal when you're in a funk, but they're fucking huge. If ya can muster the will to feel some gratitude for these things, it'll be a lot easier to tackle all the bullshit that's flung your way.

11. Well, when you're taking a dirt nap, that's it. |
|
You've cashed in your chips and the party's over. Whether you're an atheist who believes it's REALLY over then or a person of faith who believes in a spiritual existence beyond this life your concerns of this earth cease to matter. Tomorrow's another day.

12. Take a nice hot shower first, then tackle the bit... |
|
...of homework that you can do the quickest. Accomplishing that will help put the rest of the day to rest.
Are you sure your parents are really splitting up? Sometimes it sounds like it, but the final steps are something else again. Of course, if that is really taking place, no wonder your grades are slipping. And even just bitter words between parents make the child's heart hurt so deeply.
Take a deep breath, child, and tell yourself you are special and unique, and any events in high school that seem to push you down will only make you stronger! YOU will SURVIVE this, and discover your own star. I believe that we are all most "fearfully and wonderfully made" and each of us on our own road to live our dreams. It is not a favor to us to have things that are really important come to us without effort.
Take every day which comes along, and ask yourself, "What am I supposed to learn from THIS?"
And God lead you, dear kid, with His Love.

13. You have a roof over your head |
|
and you probably had something to eat today.
I see so many "emergency case" foster kids that come to stay with families in my church. There are some really messed up parents out there.
I hope things get better for you, though. We all have times in our life when we think that we are at the breaking point. Take a breather, do something for yourself. Hope this helps!

You're intelligent and you're privileged. You live in the best-off generation that has ever existed. And very little you do know will have any effect on your later life.

EVEN if they are not living together. They still are, your parents. Cherish that thought. That's reason enough to find some joy in your life.
