I'm planning to buy a new Mac next week |
|
I now have an IMac 9.2 special edition DVD. What should I buy?
I love the Mac.

2. Depends on what you need? |
|
What do you do with your Mac? Then I can help you make an informed decision.

I have a new 20-inch at work, and it's just marvelous. I can't get enough of it. Sometimes I just sit and stare it at in hopeless adoration.

7. You can upgrade the system to 10.3.4 and it will work, I have the same |
|
iMac and it is running Panther (OS 10.3.4) just fine. (Mine has 640 Mb of RAM though)

if I upgraded my system, my internet would slow down. I'm happy with my system, sometimes it freezes and there are sites that I cannot enter because I don't have Mac X.

17. I disagree with that, my internet time has speeded up since switching from |
|
an iMac at 400Mhz to an eMac at 1.25 GHz, because the computer can process the incoming data faster, even at the same connection speed (56K dialup). Pages appear faster simply because the computer can render the page to the screen faster.

6. eMac is an excellent value, I have an iMac DV special edition and I bought |
|
an eMac last summer. I was able to install the 10.3.4 system onto the old iMac, and it improves the speed and responsiveness of the iMac. eMac is probably Apple's best value as a complete system, but the new iMac is the most desirable of their line at the moment.

8. Think about waiting a bit |
|
Updates to the iMac and PowerMac are "just around the corner." Seriously, both are due for updates which may include speed bumps, more RAM and a price drop. I'm waiting for a new iMac.

9. If you are not a "pro" user who does a lot of heavy duty |
|
rendering, go with the new iMac G5. Of course if you want bragging rights, get a Power Mac. For most of us, the iMac is just fine.
Get lotsa RAM.

I love the smallness of it, yet quite sufficiently large screen. The LCD screen is easy on the eyes. The ease of grabbing it, opening it, and then pushing it away into sleep--we love it. Lots of great software with the OSX including Apple Works suite.
We have had two Mac Powerbooks, the business models, and this is far more powerful and protected (ie, no hinges that break in this model, no sensitive trackpad button.) It is made for high school and college students, made to withstand all kinds of wear. Creamy white, slippery, and just the right size. :-)
Anyway. Any Mac you get will be great, I am sure!

...for what you just said
Update To OS X, Max out the memory. Browsers are memory Hogs. What's the drive size? It BS about slowing you down on the net.
We have reached diminished returns on speed. your bottleneck is your ramp to the web, unless your a gamer. Apple just refreshed the power books and introduced a new groovy mini for cheap.
