2. You'll love this one...
"Star Trek - The MOtion Picture". That special edition DVD does it little justice, so I thought I'd digitize my LD, clean up the video and audio, and burn it to DVD. Besides, it's high time I archive my out of print LD movies anyway. :-)

I'm playing it now and in ~12 minutes I should know if the disc is not salvageable. :-(

Not really worth the trouble any more.

Do you want to buy mine? :D

3. As in an actual 12" Laser Disc?
DVD's killed my LD collection. I still have about 50 discs but will probably never watch them again.. I hate flipping discs.

6. Yes. The giantic, extremely heavy, economy sized coaster...
I hear ya on flipping discs.

But on the plus side, they've movies that DVD will never have - such as the THX editions of the original Star Wars trilogy, pre-special edition. :7

7. Get the right player and you don't have to flip disks.
Mine automagically flips itself.

8. I have one of the nicer consumer Pioneers ever made
and it does do the disc flipping, which I laugh at because it's so primitive. :) I have the special version of ET on 3 or 4 discs.. I guess I should have said disc swapping. It's so annoying.

It would be cool if someone transferred all the special LD's to DVD, although the analog video might be a problem. Another LD feature I laugh at. Analog video on a digital disc? Huh?

5. I have a Pioneer player
But only a couple dozen disks.

They are hard to come by any more.

However, there are services that will polish out scratches... Google for them.
