My husband is having his tonsils out tomarrow |
|
It is outpatient surgery and his doctor is acting like it is relatively minor. In college though, I had a few friends with reoccurring tonsilitis who were told that they couldn't have their tonsils out because it is a serious surgery for young adults. I don't really know if I should ask for prayers and good vibes because I am hoping that this really is a minor thing. I am sure that the doctor will talk to us about what to expect tomarrow for his recovery and everything. I am getting nervous about everything though. Did anyone else have their tonsils out as an adult? How did it go?

1. just curious, why are they taking his tonsils out? |
|
and if it is NOT for an emergency type of situation, did you get a second opinion?

2. His tonsils have almost swollen shut 3 times in the past 3 months |
|
His MRI shows abcesses. The emergency room doctor and family doctor recommended that they come out before the specialist agreed to this.

3. Then everything will be fine |

He will have a sore throat afterwords, but otherwise it should be uneventful. Just have someone with him in the recovery room
Good thought are with you and your family

5. I had mine taken out at 27 |
|
because very time I got near a germ or two, they would settle into my tonsils and it would be five days of 104-degree fever.
It was not fun at all, but I was back to work in a week.
If you have doubts about the doctor (or the fact that he says it's an outpatient procedure, which I am dubious about), get another opinion before they start cutting.
Hope this helps.

6. I had mine removed at 19 |
|
Due to recurrent tonsillitis (2 or 3 times a year). The surgeon said he'd never seen such swollen, scarred tonsils. He gave them to me afterward and I kept them in formaldehyde in a jar for years until I lost them somehow. Anyway, it wasn't that bad except for the time that I craved orange juice and took a big gulp. Orange juice is NOT a good idea after a tonsillectomy.
