2014 & A State of War: Should my son go to Canada or the UK ?
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 11:45 AM by steve2470
Hopefully we won't have a Bush or a Repuke in office in 2014 who is waging war, but if we do (God forbid), should my son go to Canada before he gets drafted ? Don't worry, I'm not losing sleep over this. :-)

On edit: I do feel bad for all the mothers, fathers, families and current potential draftees facing this. I'd be sorely tempted to flee to Canada, etc.

1. If your son is of draftable age at that time the answer is clear to me
Let him decide for himself what to do.

You have to cut the apron strings when your son or daughter reaches the legal age of adulthood. If you did things right at that moment you switch from being in charge to being a trusted advisor.

8. I feel for you.... truly, I do...
It's not a matter to be taken lightly and I think about it EVERY DAY! Our family lost someone in "Desert Storm". Days after his 20th birthday. The back-door draft is already in full effect and I worry for all of the folks there and you and the thousands in your position! Repukes did not when they went to the polls a few months back...

4. Canada will be part of the U.S. by that time, secret deal going on.
Canada will no longer be refuge. i.e. We accept their beef, not their drugs. Hunt another place.

10. I'm thinking Belize or maybe Costa Rica
Canada would be okay, but if I had to get out of here, somewhere there isn't any cold weather would be nice. I wouldn't count on the UK, they may very well be in the thick of things.
