Who's had contact with a serial killer? |
|
I haven't. My sister and her best friend were camping at Lake Berryesa (sp) when the Zodiac killer killed someone else. She was a teen and the parents allowed her and a friend to spend the night in a tent. It was a big deal and then we all had to deal with knowing that the Zodiac killer attacked that night.
One of my best friends younger sister went to college in SD. She met Bundy. She was heading out the door to help him with his stalled car. She just decided not to. Years later, she recognized his picture. She said he was charming and wanted to help him. She doesn't know what made her hesitate.

killing his wife, children, and the neighbors. I feel as if I dodged a bullet somehow.
Oh, I almost forgot, their next door neighbor's daughter (farmland so about 4 miles away) was a victim of Ed Gein.

4. Me. Steven Pennell went to high school with a close friend of mine. |
|
He killed a woman who was my best friend in elementary school (I had lost touch with her for some time). He was defended by a close friend of mine and during his trial, I had a to interview a witness who was in jail and Pennell was in the cell next to the witnesses - Delaware is one small state - I'll grant you that.
Oh and the lead investigator on the case went on to law school and I ended up working with him for a brief time. He told fascinating stories of how they found Pennell to be a suspect and how they tracked him and eventually caught him.

8. My father was detained and questioned as a Boston Strangler suspect |
|
He was working for a laundry service and came to make a pickup at a customer's house who had gone out of town without canceling their service.
A nosy neighbor spotted a "suspicious looking guy" poking around his neighbor's house, called the cops and described the man and the vehicle.
Cops came and asked him all kinds of questions. Pretty spooky.

turned out to be a serial rapist. His name was Steve Szeman. He was somewhat of a loner in high school as I recall, but it seems I remember he played baseball. When he was arrested, his apartment was searched and he kept trophies of his victims. Creepy!

|
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 02:33 PM by neebob
about the sociopathic scumbag from the internet who nearly ruined me. He was a closet-homosexual park cruiser who gravitated toward bums and drifters like himself, was full of hate, and often came home wearing different clothes than the ones he left in and refused to say what he'd been doing all day. He once came home with a backpack and checkbook he said belonged to "some drunken transient" he'd picked up hitchhiking. Funny, this drunken transient had a local checking account. I've racked my brain trying to remember the guy's name, but of course I didn't think enough of it at the time, and the backpack and checkbook disappeared after I asked about them.
He was also obsessed with serial killers. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him on the news one day and learn he's also a prolific serial killer.
Otherwise, my cousins went to high school with Debbie Kent, one of Ted Bundy's victims.

16. I walked past Ted Bundy's apt house every day as I went to |
|
class at Florida State Univ. I was living half a mile away from his 4th victim (who lived in a small house off-campus, as I did) and woke up that Sunday morning to the news that someone had killed 4 women at FSU. No one knew who it was at the time, of course, but when he was arrested and the books started coming out about how he did things and who he picked for victims, I remember my blood running cold. You know all those photos of the dead women, and how they all had long brown hair parted in the middle, etc.? I looked exactly like that. Brrrrrrrr.

21. Ma's Jr. High boyfriend was George Nassar. Albert DeSalvo's cellmate. |
|
And possibly the real Boston Strangler. Nassar is a psychopath with a genius IQ who grew up on the mean streets of Lawrence MA. He later on killed a shopkeeper as well as a cop in a MA armed robbery. DeSalvo, at his whore attorney, F.Lee Baileys' request, made claims to be the strangler for a book deal that Bailey would have also benefited from. He (DeSalvo), received details of the crimes, not released to the press, from Nassar, who also had a history of sexual assault. George Nassar is still in a MA state facility at the age of 73.

Three separate brushes with Charlie.
Went with a friend to look at horses. Charlie and his gang were camped in the canyon back of the Chatsworth ranch and about two weeks later killed all the people at the ranch.
Later on trail rides after coming down from the fire trails at the top of Malibu mountains, we would stop up the road from where we lived and water horses at what used to be a friend's house. The Iron Butterfly bought it and Manson stayed there for a while. (At the time we stopped there.)
I used to house sit in Benedict Canyon about 1/2 mile from Sharon Tate's house. Again at the time Manson was there.
Fate, it appears, was on my side.

Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 06:09 PM by Kire
True crime author Ann Rule, who worked and became friends with Ted Bundy at a crisis hotline, called the call center for Barnesandnoble.com to complain that someone had spammed the page for her latest book (I forget which one) with the same negative comment over 200 times. The lady who created the newsletter was in the next aisle when it happened. Ann said that she complained once already. I told her I was calling out the dogs. I notified everybody I could about this problem, and for good measure I got it published in the newsletter, more for forcing the programmers to limit the comment to just once than for mere ego feeding, but that was a factor, until I realized that my name was in the newsletter at work with Ted Bundy's. :gulp:

on a filmmaking site one of the members killed his friends wife in her garage. He had made a deal to help out his friend by killing the wife for a cost of $10,000.
It was especially creepy because most of us who frequented the site remembered the nick, and looking up his past posts, found they were mostly wanting more gore in movies and arguing that murders in movies weren't real enough.
