In honor of the Oscars, let's post about crappy movies that won Oscars!

It doesn't have to be for best picture, but any Oscar will do. I'll start with an example--last year, "Lost in Translation" won for best original screenplay, and if there was a more boring movie ever made, I've yet to see it!

I could go on and on and on, but I'll let you all chime in with some undeserving crap!:)

over Pulp Fiction. geeez. However, I disagree with Lost In Translation - fun movie in many ways - but, that debate seems to be had about every other week here.

Interesting bit of trivia: it's part of a three-way tie for Most Oscars Won By A Motion Picture (11), with Ben Hur and Return of the King.

ie. Goodfellas or Raging Bull, doesn't mean that he should win when he doesn't deserve to (ie. Aviator, The Age of Innocence, etc.)

I have hated every one of his "Please give me an Oscar!" blatant attempts, namely The Aviator, Age of Innocence, and to a lesser degree Gangs of New York.

Why do artists feel the need to apologize for what they do best (in this case, violent, bloody, gritty gangster movies) just to get some validation from some organization.

10. My gripe is that comedies are not ever included

many comedies have been worthy. If they don't want to include it, they should give it it's own category.

I love that film. There has yet to be a successful epic story starring a woman since except for Kill Bill.

Tommy Lee Jones won the Oscar in 1994 for "Best Supporting Actor" for "The Fugitive" over Ralph Fiennes amazing performance as Amon Goeth in "Schindler's List."

I freaking loved Lost in Translation and totally understood the emotions. I loved its subtle beauty.

I like movies that don't beat me over the head. Case in point: Titanic. That movie was so overblown, I cannot believe it won the Oscar.

21. "Shakespeare in Love" just proved how powerful the Weinstein brothers are.

Just a wishy-washy forgettable film...and the Best Picture of that year. It was a Miramax film, which pushed this film relentlessly for the Oscar. Marketing savvy over quality.

rip-off of a book of this subject that was witten in the 1930's--I forget the name, but the screenwriter basically lifeted it from the book, and he won for best original screenplay. Geesh!

didn't like at all. Unforgiven, Goodfellas,Top Gun, Scarface. And that Eddie Murphy movie where the whole dialogue only contained two words...F and MF. He played a cop but I don't remember the name of the film. I'm really not a prude at all but I get dismayed when script writers feel that the more F**ks they throw in, the better the movie will sell.

Liked the overall concept of Gladiator, but when they made the Colosseum look like a non-stop Jerry Springer episode, that's when the film started to lose me.

But the film also featured Marcus Aurelius, one of Rome's better emperors and a decent philosopher. If I had to live in a fascist society, I'd want Marcus Aurelius as my chief executive.

By the way, why is there such adoration of graphically violent movies that don't stand up artistically? I understand why The Godfather is a masterpiece, but not some of these also-rans. And little gems of movies based on novels, such as Enchanted April, Room with a View, and Sense and Sensibility, will still be worth watching decades from now and ought to be honored accordingly.
