what is up with my dog?
Everytime I take him for a walk, he has to stop and pee every half block or so. Is this normal?

1. Absolutely. Marking his turf.
I think they ration pee so they can widen their hood.

2. If you're not having to walk him every few minutes, he's
probably okay and just marking his territory. Maybe another dog came by and marked up the place.

3. He may be wanting to mark "his" territory.

6. Sure is
he's just making his territory. Another dog will come along give a sniff and will be able to tell if the dog was healthy, a male or female and if a female was she in heat.

7. If this is unusual for him...
take him to the vet and have him given a urinalysis and x-rays to check for a bladder infection or bladder stones. ESPECIALLY do this if he starts having accidents in the house.

Was just talking to a friend today whose dog was having accidents in the house and was waking her up in the middle of the night to take him out. The vet did no tests and just told her he had "marking problems". This went on for about a year. Then, finally, he was only able to pee a few drops at a time and he had to have emergency surgery for a bladder stone stuck in his urethra.

This said, my own male dog used to regularly pee every few blocks or so on walks, with no accidents in the house and he was just fine.

Good luck with your little guy! :hi:

8. My male dog pees every couple of feet.
My female when she could walk more than a half block never peed. This is a male dog thing.

10. My male dog can wait from early evening till the next morning without
peeing- and then when I let him out he doesn't pee. He saves it till I take him for our long walk in the woods, where he pees on everything. To him its like ink, its not something to be spilled just anywhere, but used judiciously in a hundred p-mail signatures!

Me, I can't even make it through most nights without getting up once.

11. Apparently, you are not an experienced dog owner
All dogs do that. My female Rottweiler does that and I finally have to yell at her that she is out of pee.

13. There was a great far side cartoon
where a "dad" dog has a garden hose in his mouth, taking in the water. The "mom" dog says something like, "I see you're planning another big night on the town."
